I know this is more a PC question than a TV question, but hopefully someone out there can help. I bought a Gainward GeForce FX 5200 Pro/680/TV/DVI 256MB DDR video card so I could display PC on two monitors (TV and Dell monitor). The TV is currently connected by the s-video out from PC to Video 1 in on Toshiba 30HF34 (video 1).
Problem is that what ever is displayed on my monitor does not fit on the Toshiba TV. I find this weird because the whole image is displayed correctly on the 17" Dell monitor and for some reason is to large to be displayed on the 30" Toshiba TV.
I have tried everything I could think of. The only way I was able to get the picture to "kind of" fit on the Toshiba was to raise the resolution on the PC settings for the TV, but that made everything to small to read and I still had to pan right using the mouse to see the right side of the screen.
When I lower or raise the resolution on the PC monitor it makes the objects and letters smaller and vice versa, but the image is contained on the screen no matter which way I adjust.
How can I get the PC picture to fit on the Toshiba TV?

That is the solution! Possibly the only solution... AFAIK.

The manual also says that hooking up a PC to this TV is not advised. That might be why it won't work so well. What resolution size are you sending to the TV? I can try bringing my computer downstairs since it has an s-video out and see what I can get to work, if anything.
Hooking a PC to a TV is "not advised" due to potential burn in from the static images that are usually on a PC. As long as you're aware of the burn in and how to prevent it, it'll be fine.

The video card has burn in protection (suposedley), it shifts pixels every minute. The res is at 800x600. The only problem is that the PC image is not contained with in the TV unless I raise the resolution but that makes it impossible to see. I tried a program called TVtools which is supposed to fit the PC image to the TV screen, didn't work. The mediator on the ramelectronics.com/powerstrip forum advised I use TVtools instead of powerstrip.

I've tried "TVtool" and it didn't work.

You're going to run into Overscan on most cards by default, what you'll end up doing is wanting the reverse, the ability to Underscan to make sure the desktop isn't cut off when you output to your TV. I’m not familiar with nVidia cards, but I know that ATI and ASUS drivers allow you to correct the overscan or underscan via it’s driver settings. On ATI cards this is a undocumented feature which you can only enable using ATI-Specific tweaking tools (such as Radeon Tweaker). The Tvtool program that you were referred to is an application for nVidia cards with TV output chips allowing you to tweak aspects of the card that are not available through the driver interface I would suggest that you find out which TV-out chipset you have on your card and do a search for it (usually referred to as the TV Encoder type). The following method might not work out on your chipset. Nvidia in the past has shipped a tool of its own, called "NVIDIA Full Screen Video Mirror Control". You can find the file, NVFSVM.EXE, hidden in the windows/system folder or in the temporary folder to which the NVIDIA drivers were unpacked prior to installation. This tool let's you adjust your image size to fill the entire screen independently of your monitor settings. You can even Zoom in on the picture or change the ratio between 4:3 and 16:9. The program will remember your settings, so you won't be forced to readjust or start it every time you restart your computer. I would suggest that you find out which TV-output chipset (usually referred to as the TV Encoder type) you have on your card and do a search for it. You’re going to have to test this method with various drivers. Try the following link http://www.ddigest.com/dvd/nvidia/tvout.html#fullscreen for helpful information. Good luck.

TXstang347, you and I are about to become fast friends. I have nearly the exact same Tv( the 30HFX84) and an nvidia 5600 card, which for all purposes of putting your computer to your tv is the same as the 5200. I am pulling my hair out, screaming, yelling, trying anything to get the desktop to fit on my screen, and I finally suceeded...... sort of. I tried using powerstrip forever, some of the resolutions work great, some flicker a little, and some make my screen go black. Adjusting however is a dif. story. You're supposed to be able to shrink the screen, etc. as soon as I try, my screen almost goes instantly black. Vertically I can squeeze it a couple of mm. Horizontally I can't touch it. I can shift the screen around pretty good to see the start menu, but that's just shifting the problem. I have my computer set up to do clone mode for 2 displays (I do this o I can play games on my tv and computer.) with the TV being the primary, otherwise the powerstrip screen adj. only affect the monitor (which by the way let's me adjust pretty much everything in every way I want). Also, unless the game I was playing used the same in game resolution as my desktop, none of the effects remained in effect once the game starts. Recently a ray of light has appeared for me however. After downloading the latest nvidia drivers, nvkeystone was installed, and became accessable right from right clicking anywhere on the desktop. This tool just let's you grab any dimension of the screen and shrink, so I just pulled all 4 corners in an inch towards center, and voila. My screen fit my tv perfectly, and I just used the monitors controls to make the image larger on my monitor so no problem. I can run any program perfectly, as long as it runs as a window. As soon as I load up a game with any 3D graphics, the screens flash back and forth from the 'keystoned' image and the original. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I thought I was so close. anyways, this works great for internet, and windows applications, just doesn't seem to quite work for games. Please, please let me know if you've had success since, and I will continue to update here with my progress. Any refresh rates/resolutions that each of us find that work for our tv, we should post and share.
