I just bought a Sony KV-30HS420 3 or 4 days ago, and i think its the best loooking 30 inch wide CRT set out there right now.
I just have one problem with it. The other night i was watching the Goodfellas DVD and i noticed that whenever the picture was relatively still and there were vertical lines, or sometimes text, on the screen, the lines shimmer, like a desert mirage. Now i see this problem on both of my component inputs (a DVD player and a xBox) It's really noticible when I play xBox (menus are especially bad).
I couldnt tell you if the problem was there from when i first hooked the TV up, but now that I've seen it, I cant stop looking for it.
Anyone else heard of this problem?

Are your xbox settings for 480p,720p,1080i turned on in the dashboard? As for the DVD, was it anamorphic?

I am looking into buying this same tv for the same things you mention, xbox and DVD. I am interested if anyone else has noticed this.

I realized my HiDef cable box had a DVI output on it, so i bought a DVI to HDMI cable. the problem still persisted.
I returned the TV and got another one, same model, and it works fine.
To Demundo -- Buy this set. it is probably the best 30 inch CRT on the market. xBox never looked so good.

I wounldn't buy it if I were you. I own the KV-34HS510 and it's basically a larger model of the 420. If you are a visual junkie, beware. Unless you purchase a game that's specifically widescreen, you are going to have to play it stretched or in 420i.

I have 480p, 720p, and 1080i enabled on my xBox. The xBox is connected to th TV with component cables. I can unstretch the picture by pressing the "Screen" button on my remote.
Also, games that are 480p, 720p, or 1080i enabled (check the bottom of the back cover) seem to look squished when i switch the TV to 4:3 mode and look fine in 16:9. And if a game looks stretched, like Top Spin, I just change my screen mode on my TV.
