Is there a picture quality differance between cable card or STB?

There really should not be, although the reviewer in the most recent Sound & Vision stated that the CableCard did look better - he thought it might be because of the more "direct" connection.

I believe it's more likely the way the TV was calibrated for CableCard vs. the STB he was using on another input. Each input must be properly calibrated and perhaps, even though S&V calibrate their TVs, the calibration may have been "different enough" to see a "difference".

This is also often why people see a difference between DVI and component - simple calibration differences of the inputs in most cases, especially for CRT-based HDTVs.

also remember with a cable card you will not get access to the IPG or PPV.... no 2 way cards available right now...
