Hello, I am new to all of this. Had been looking at Philips sets recently, but today looked at the Mitsubishi 65" model number 65869 with the hdtv tuner already integrated in it.
How do the Philips tv's stack up against the Mitsubishi? Or is the Mits a much much better set than the Philips? The price I can get this Mits for is $3297.00, looks like a very good deal but would love some input before spending all that money. Also can get a 5 year warranty for 299.00
Thanks

Not to play favorites but I love my Mits. tv I just have the 55859 and wouldn't trade it for anything..at least so far. ha ha I did buy the extended warranty I thought it was well worth it mine was about $299 as well. Not to say that the Philips tv isn't a good set because I haven't viewed one before but compare the Mits. with other sets like some of the sonys or even a few Pioneer none elite sets and I thought it performed better. But that is just my opinion. My tast in picture could be totaly different then yours. What looks good to me may not look so great to the next person and so on. I did calibrate my tv though and spent quite abit of time with it getting rid of the red push and so forth and the picture is just wonderful. I haven't had it ISF calibrated yet though. I can't wait to see how well it looks after that is done. I have heard a few friends say that have seen a few Mits. sets IFS calibrated that they look a lot better then the pioneer elite sets. Like I said though each person has their own taste so go by just what I say go by what you like best it is your hard earned money.

pcoffman and anyone else, it it easy to go in and click the "edit" button (bottom right in your post). You don't need to "reply" to make a correction...
Ask the vendor about thier return policy. If the TV craps out (technical term for unit will not turn on) like my 65909 did six weeks after purchase, will it be replaced on notice within the warrenty period or will you have to wait a month or more for someone to drop by to fix it because that is Mitsubishi's corporate position (never authorize replacement until proven the TV cannot be fixed)? Suggest you get the words in writing signed by someone in authority. Read my posts on flashing timer light. I will never again buy a Mitsubishi.

I'm a recent purchaser of the same 65869. My price was $3,400 plus $400 for the extended warranty. My TV looks pretty good right out of the box. I've only had it for less then a month, but knock on wood, no problems. I also put an HD antenna on my roof, and the picture is great. People on this sight say Mits is very reliable.
