Ok the tech just left after setting up the SA8000HD. I called to get the signal sent and now have the HD channels.

Some of them are amazing full 16x9 and other are the 4x3 version.

My question, is this HD programming that just is not meant for 16x9 or is this SD programming that just happens to be the HD channel at the time?

For example right now I'm watching Discovery and it has HD in the top right of the screen but is only 4:3 view. The picture is great but not full. Since the STB uses component cables I have to use the Stretch and Zoon of the STB and not the TV.

Sorry if this has been covered all ready.

All true HD is 16:9. When you see 4:3, it's simply upconverted SD on an HD channel. for a list of what's really HD, see the FAQ "HDTV programme guides".

Discovery barely has any HD programming, hopefully it will ramp up soon. If they ever re-run the 5-part series on Everest, make sure you check it out. Unbeleiveable cinematography atop Mount Everest and a good story to boot.

Watching HD channels that have been up-converted is still much better than watching their SD counterparts IMHO.

They are currently rerunning Insectia - Wednesday 10, 10:30 AM. Great programme.

Also F2 (Forensic Factor) on Saturday during the day and "sex files", Friday midnight.
