So finally I called Sony and they were on top of everything contacting bestbuy and working with them to resolve the issue. So the tech came out on monday and says he needs to do a "resistor mod" he says there are 3 spots on the board that needs to have the resistors replaced and he has seen this particular problem and after doing the mod the customers never called back, So he ordered the resistors and says after they are replaced if I continue to have the problem they will replace the guns. So hopefully in a few days those parts will come in and I can enjoy my TV again, cause the picturs and color sucks.

I must have missed any previous threads on this issue. Which Sony tv do you have and what was the specific problem?

Just got the parts today, 2 small resistors that look like a couple grains of salt and one larger pink resistor. Tech is comming out on Tuesday will let you guys know what happens, here is a recap of the problem i was having today
Ive been having this issue with my KP51WS500 here is the problems ive been having,
1st.) Picture would go from dark to light as if brightness what being adjusted, also picture would seem to lose all color intermitantly except green.
* tech came out and "fixed" it, by adjusting convergence and adjusting brightness for the guns.
2nd) Picture would loose all color except green intermtantly again, then at one time the picture was all blue as if the blue gun was turned all the way up and there were blue arched lines that could be seen on black backgrounds or when you switched between inputs.
* tech came out again, "reconnected" something, adjusted gun brightness, and said it should be good.
3rd) 1hr after tech left, green arching lines re-appeared on black backgrounds and it would seem to lose all color but green but this time the green was even more bright and was unbareable to watch, so i had to wait over the weekend until the tech would be out again.
*tech came out again did the same thing, adjusted gun brightness and says "if it happens again I'll change the entire board that should fix it"
Well...later that night the green arches have reappeared on the black backgrounds and im gonna have to have them come out again. Is this the flicker issue everyones been talking about? Also i bought my TV 12/02 and understand that Sony extended the warranty for the flicker issue to 2yrs. Should I just call sony instead of having the BestBuy tech come out?

i think your issue is the flicker issue. i've had the same problem you did and they didnt change any resistors. they just revamped all 3 guns, adjusted convergence, and presto. working fine for almost 2 months so far *knock on wood*

well the tech came out today, (not the same one) and says that they should replace all 3 CRTS, i dont know i think he just didnt want to solder those small ass resistors but they ordered all 3 so i should get those by the end of the week. So now im on my 3rd wasted day off.. if i didnt buy this for 800 i woulda already had a new tv

and that is why i am done with sony,
the stuff they sell today is riding on the brand of yesteryear, sony is a 4 letter word for garbage now.
Sorry ...

Hdwizard,
all you have to do is read in here to see which brands have the biggest/most complaints...
then of course there is also google-epinions-consumer reports (you do the math...)
I think if you can use an unbiased perspective to investigate , you'll see a different picture...
