My first time on this forum so I'll start out by saying you have an incredible site here. Great help, abundant resources and some terribly knowledgeable people. I'm going to be buying my first hdtv soon and could use some input from sources in addition to sales people and magazine articles.

I'm looking at the Sony KDF55WF655 ($3099 at Ultimate Electronics) and was wondering if anyone had any comments or experiences, good or bad, with this set?

Once again thanks for providing such a valuable resource.

Also my first post, this site made my buying decision easier. I purchase the Sony KDF50-50WE655 a week ago and could be more pleased. I am at this point using a outside antenna, the smallest one Radio Shack sells. I get a fantastic picture. The picture is much better the the display set in the store. Also the sound is excellent. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

You didn't mention any setup, so make sure you read the FAQ "What you need to do to your new HDTV" if you haven't already.

Thanks for the advice I was aware of the set up but the picture is so good I was afraid to touch it

Hey, you can make note of the settings before you make any changes, make the changes, and if you don't like them simply go back. Remember to turn off any automatic settings if you're going to make changes. You don't need to go into the service menu - just change items like contrast (typically should be lowered), brightness, hue, colour, sharpness (typically should be lowered), etc.

about this tv that irks me or I would get it.

You cant plug in your PC! Surely there must be some way around this. Cant you use the DVI somehow, etc? to hack in somehow? I'd like to be able to play video games on this tv off my pc.

Speaking of which - how does an xbox look on this set?

You CAN hook a pc up to a HDTV. But most manufacturers recommend you don't. If the DVI will not work you can use s-video.

Possibility of Burn In - since computers display mostly static images. Most TVs with DVI inputs will work with computers when the computer is properly configured. Look for information regarding HTPC, here and on the web.

Gotcha...so I suppose some limited use wouldnt kill it, but bad to..say...write long emails on a regular basis....Funny tho...why would an LCD TV get burn in and not my LCD display on my laptop (after 7 years of heavy use!).

By the wasy 57U...how do you like those Martin Logans? I have some Carvers...they rock.

The LCDs would not have burn in, that would be limited to CRT-based TVs and Plasmas - see the FAQ on Burn in. You don't show your equipment in your Sig and Brector has a CRT-based TV.

Yes, I do like my MLs.

I just purchased this same Grand Wega LCD Projection from Circiut City, also for $3099. This was a replacement for my RCAF38310 which finally died! The SONY is hooked up to my SONY Direct TV HDTV receiver and I am very pleased with picture. I also have a Panasonic R56 DVD player hooked up via componet inputs but oddly the picture seems to be better (as good as DVD can be) with the Progressive Scan option turned off. Not sure why?

This is not unheardof - a lot of peole have reported that a 480i signal to their TV, when upconverted by the TV looks better than the 480P signal (deinterlaced by the DVD player), especially if the DVD player is not very expensive.

I would not have expected this from the Panny DVD player, but it's certainly possible.
