What are the specifics of this? Any associated press release? This would be, I believe, the straw that breaks the camel's back as far as HDTV breaking through.

NEWS: ESPN to Add HD Channel; Plans Full-Time 'Deportes'
Sports telecasts could spur growth of HDTV
By Staci D. Kramer
ESPN hopes to extend its reach--and its value to MSOs--by adding two new networks to its lineup in 2003: ESPN HD, a high-definition simulcast of ESPN, and ESPN Deportes, a 24-hour Spanish-language sports network. Both nets are expected to be offered primarily on a tiered basis.
Concurrently with ESPN's announcement that ESPN HD would launch in April 2003 with 100 live telecasts of select major league games, ESPN sibling ABC added wattage by announcing it would broadcast the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup, the NBA finals and Monday Night Football in high definition in 2003.
ESPN president George Bodenheimer told Cable World, "We're talking NBA. We're talking football, baseball, hockey. Instead of just talking about technology, we're talking about product and that's going to resonate with cable subscribers and folks looking to purchase the television sets."
HD proponents say the new content moves HD closer to the critical mass viewers need before they invest in a new television set and sign up for HD set-tops being offered by MSOs. As Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association put it, "When we're looking back, it could be that ESPN will be viewed as the tipping point for HDTV."
Going into the Christmas retail season, "It adds more weight. The salesmen on the floor will use this," Shapiro said.
HDNet founder and HD evangelist Mark Cuban was excited by the news. "I think it's great!," Cuban wrote in an e-mail. "The more people that see HD, the better it is for the entire market."
ESPN Deportes goes 24/7 in the third quarter from the current Sunday-night block delivered to 13 million subscribers and will net a license fee of about 15 cents per sub on a Spanish tier.
THE NEXT QUESTION:
How will Wall Street view Disney's investment in HDTV?
Will the promise of hi-def telecasts of such marquee events as the Super Bowl and the NBA and NHL finals drive sales of HDTV sets this holiday season?
IS HD READY FOR PRIME TIME?
By Jonathan Blum, Kagan
High-definition TV took a step forward in mid-September as regulators began the process of imposing new rules to push the technology. As a result, we have revised our estimates for HD penetration in 2008 up by 14.2%. The move comes on the heels of several operators upping their HD rollouts and many programmers announcing new HD initiatives. Throw in the interesting indicator that companies selling libraries of film and video footage on a per-shot basis are seeing a migration to hi-def, and that could mean HD is at last finding a niche.

Are they going to have production trucks at each live event or upconvert a standard signal? In the studio it would not be difficult but live production makes me wonder. How would the channel be distributed? Additional subscription fee's probally like DiscoverHD I imagine. Regardless it will only be available to those with HD cable or HD satelite service.

Here's a link on ESPN HD Service. If it happens I will go out and buy a new satellite dish/receiver. Gotta have my sports in HD, especially hockey and football!!! Actually, the cheerleader competitions would be nice in HD...

It's just a random game, though, right? I've got NHL Center Ice so I have choices. Huge Capitals fan here.
See --> This Link (http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/021023/230399_1.html). It says 65 games...
