I know the Tosh sets will allow you to stretch a 1080i OTA signal in every fashion.

But, you made a good ignorant point to my TV issue. A previous poster stated that this is not a set with all the tweaks and specs that a techie would want in a set. Oviously, I need to simply judge this TV by its simple features. If it does what i need, buy it and judge the picture quality.

Depending on direction of the x-mitters, distance and power, attic antennas can and do work.

I tried 4 or 5 different indoor antennas (20 mile from x-mitters). None were stable. The attic solution worked for me. YMMV

Heh, all my xmitters seem to be in the 23-30degree range and about 10 miles away. Personally I would have thought that them being all clustered so close togeather as well as being only 10mi away, a good indoor should have covered it but I guess not. My shingles are not slate or foil-backed so I think it should be a little better. But above the bricks of my house, the attic is covered with aluminum siding, which is probably going to screw me on this. *sigh*

Anyway, it may look as tho I will need to go the roof-top mount in the end (I've been reading up on crap that can kill good reception), but atleast if i try the attic first I will already have the antena line up the wall and into the attic. Short trip from there through an attic vent to the outside! :)

4.1, 5.1, 9.1 are the 're-mapped' channels. Not necessarily the 'real' channels. (PSIP will remap to the 'real' to the existing analog counterpart)

Have you checked www.antennweb.org or www.titantv.com?
The 'real' channels will be shown.

You may not need the VHF portion. (Just trying to save you a few scheckles and some attic space)

BTW... channels 14 and higher are UHF.

Give a shot... just so you know, I can get channels 6, 10, & 12 (analog) in my area pretty clearly using the UHF only antenna in my attic.

So start small... work your way up. You may just 'luck out'.

I am a novice in anything technical but after following this thread, we decided to purchase the Akai PT5598HDIX from Sam's Club. After getting the TV home & going through the setup process, everything looks great. Then I tried the PIP feature. When I get a picture in the PIP there's no picture on the regular screen. Evidently, I missed something. Do I need additional cables for the picture in picture feature to work? I have Direct TV, does this make a difference in how the cables should be hooked up? :confused:
