Woohoo.... I got my new Grand Wega KDF-60xs955 on Monday. This set is crazy awesome. Even the SD channels don't look bad (as compared to earlier models).
I've got the new Denon DVD-1910 DVD player hooked up to it with DVI to HDMI cable (720p) and the picture is amazing.
This is my first HDTV and I've been waiting a LONG time, so I am very excited!

congrats Blizaine ! ! glad to hear you are set up
and nice too (TV & Denon player) sounds like ya did some home-work
and made some good choices...
enjoy
Just for kicks, you may wish to feed it a 1080i signal - why? Because many HDTVs, even ones with "720P" type displays, actually look better when fed a 1080i signal. YMMV.

I just ordered the 60xs955 from Sears. After match price with CC and 10% discount with Sears card, it came down to about $3400+tax. They also recommended to pickup the 5 years warr/insur for $599. Was it a good deal for the TV? Should I purchase the warr/insur? Have not seen the TV yet. just from the Sony site so far. Hope it is good. I had the Mit WD52525 (DLP). The color was great, the picture was tilt a litle and white letters/banners not always total white and smooth. They had ranbow or wrinkle outside edges. I return it to get this Sony. Would I see that in this Sony LCD as well?
Thanks

You shouldn't. What you described is the DLP "rainbow" effect.

The XS series is the newest on Sony 60". It was released on August 24th I read. I also read that it has a brighter bulb, improved chip, and 4 speakers plus a subwoofer inside of it :D I am happy to say that I ordered a brand spanking new Sony KDF-60XS955 today at BestBuy. I paid $4,400.00 which includes a $300.00 stand, $399.00 for the 4 year service plan, $40.00 for delivery and setup in my house and 6% sales tax. You can even get it interest free for 2 years if you have a credit card that has that amount left on it. I will be getting delivery on November 4th :D I will report back after that with my opinion on this new LCD set. My BestBuy salesman said they only got a floor model in 10 days ago :wow: Porn is gonna be soooo fun now.......LOL!

I first was interested in the Mitsu. WD-62525 62". Once I saw it side by side with the Sony KDF-60XS955..........there was no competition really :wow: The Mitsu. has one NASTY shiny glare coming off that screen that I could not live with.

Mits problems could be longer term because these are newer sets and technology.
The Sony LCD RPTVs have got better and better.
Now they have Grand Wega IV, quite a difference from the first ones years ago, they have got a lot better with improved technology, IMO, that has matured.
Many forum members love their sets, with good reason.

Well, I've been playing with it for a while now and I am VERY satisfied :) BrightHouse in Indy doesn't have the SA8000HD DVR box yet so I have the SD version and a cablecard so I can get the HD package (INHD1, INHD2, HDNET1, HDNET-Movies, ESPN-HD, ect...)
The cablecard was installed today with out success. :( It pulled down the channel list and the tech phoned in the info and the headend guy said it should be working. However, only the non-encrypted stations work like CBS-HD, PBS-HD, and NBC_HD...
I guess I should look in the "CableCard" forum, but does anyone know of any good rescources for troubleshooting a cablecard?
I'd like to learn the procces of what takes place when a cablecard is inserted and what configuration is done at the headend. I have a feeling it is a config problem on the cable companies end since they have only done 18 cablecard installs. And I don't know if any other them had both the DVR service AND a cablecard...
Thanks
Blizaine
UPDATE 11-02-2004:
CableCard started working last night... must have been a config issue at the headend. BTW: This TV is awesome!

I just got my Sony KDF-60XS955 delivered today :D I quickly hooked it up to my roof antenea because thats all I got until tomorrow (Friday) when Voom comes out and installs my new dish service :D So far so good as far as the picture on my roof antenea. The picture is very impressive and sharp. When Voom gets installed..........I can't even imagine how much better the picture will become :wow: I will report back in a few days.

I just took back the Busch universal TV stand because it was too tall with the TV on it. Sony recommends the SU-GW12 stand for this TV. The price at Best Buy is listed $799.00 :wow: I asked the saleman if that comes with Vasaline...or without?? I shopped for it on the internet and got a best price of $655.00 delivered to my house. I told Best Buy........ NO way.........what a rip off. I talked the manager into giving it to me out the door for $499.00 :D He was not too fond of me after that trust me. I will not be invited to Thanksgiving at his house trust me....LOL! :shootout: It is amazing what a mark up there is on this kinda stuff.

Just like Blizaine, I received my KDF-60xs955 on Monday and went out and bought the new Sony Upscaling DVD player (the NS-N75V or something like that). I absolutely love the TV!!! I am wondering if anyone has done any playing around with the settings to adjust it for an even better picture. I order a copy of the Video Essentials DVD to calibrate it, but I wonder if there is anything that someone has done that received good results.
Blizaine, how did you setup your system for watching upscaled DVDs, so far I am moderately happy with my results. I need to try at different settings to see if there is better quality, but it seems upscaling to 1080i doesn't give it that great of a picture.
Let me know what you did.

I have owed my set now for 2 weeks :D Screw the calabration crap. just adjust the set to what looks good for you. I have my color setting way below the halfway point........and the brightness up about 3/4 of scale :D You read about all this bull****.......etc.....etc...this great set really needs none of this IMHO! Enjoy.............Talon

I forget, was it 3 weeks or 8 weeks when I started wondering
"...hmmm, can I make this picture any better" (bought a DVE Disc)
that was amusing, for about a month...
"damn, picture sure looks great can I squeeze anymore out of it"
(learned the tricks to get into sevice menu and did some tweakin')
guess it is just the nature of the beast
and your approach about not getting too excited about it is the way to go...
also IMHO :)
