I've had my eye on this set but I'd like to get some feedback from some that have one.

How does SD look? Bad pixels a problem? And my big question: since this set only displays 788 lines of resolution, is it disappointing that you can't view 1080i?

Thanks.

I have this set and after some tweaking have an awesome picture. I view everything in 1080i because it seems to look better or just as good as 720p. The set is great for the price but this is my first LCD.

This is the newer version of that set. Wife pulled the trigger on that set after seeing it in Sears (and after Hitachi 43 going into shop for 2nd time). I was able to look at both sets when we went back to look at stands.

With the same source (don't know if they were "tuned" the same way) the screen door effect was less noticable in close with the 655. Also the 610 exhibited some red-push, were as the 655 didn't. Switching to standard definition the 655 appeared to handle it better.

I don't know if the 610 has these features, but they are nice to haves. The Cablecard works great (just no OnDemand/PPV or guide) and the picture looks better than the cable stb. Also the built in HDTV tuner worked great and locked the stations I knew I would get.

Only thing is cosmetic for me, I for some reason liked the black bezel of the 610, whereas my wife liked the all silver look.

The 655 was simply dazling in HD this weekend (both 720p and 1080i sources looked great, although I do think that 720p is better for sports and 1080i better for the documentary stuff) and our DVDs overwhelmed us when compared to the old Hitachi.

I just bought a KDF50WE655 this weekend and it is awesome. I did notice some "noise" in the sky (light blue) of the opening scene of 5th element, and watching some concerts on HDNet the well lit faces in the foreground were perfect while the stage lighting in the background had the same effect.

I didn't have these problems with my CRT Sony KS36XBR400.

Also the blacks weren't as good but I have not calibrated my set yet. My sound and vision disc would not work on the LCD.

Describe red push for me please?

red push - Tendency of the color decoder in many TVs to accentuate the color of red compared to blue and green. Red push is typically introduced intentionally to compensate for an overly blue color temperature.

Thanks for the feedback. I was mainly looking at the KF because a local store is closing them out for a really good price. I'd PREFER to have the newer model, but I'd like to save the money, plus I don't need a built-in HD tuner. I wish they'd offer it without the tuner so we could save $500. I'm starting to have doubts anyway because I really do notice the screen-door effect and it bothers me.

I highly recommend picking up the Avia calibration DVD. It can help you set up all of the colors, blacks, whites, etc. so that your TV looks as good as it possibly can. I noticed a huge difference in color quality across the board after I ran it.

Hey Mattdoc,

Got the avia disk last week and tuned up my set last weekend, made a huge difference.

Yeah. You may think you're picture looks good, but you have no idea how much the colors are off until you take the 20 minutes to run through that disc. :)
