Just sat in front of both of these tv's at my local store in front of a comfie chair. Distance was about 9 feet...roughly 3 strides. I gotta say that the 50'' provides the BIG SCREEN experience. The 42'' just doesnt quite get there. Ya I know the 42'' is like 500 bucks cheaper....but! I think Im going 50'' not 42'' as planned. The diff between the 50'' and 60'' versus the diff between the 42'' and 50'' was not as big. And the 60'' was probably too big if you dont have a big room.

I agree. Though not a LCD, you seem to be talking screen size. The BIG SCREEN experience from a 50" (mine is 51") is all there.
And the 60'' was probably too big if you dont have a big room.
For viewing normal SD television, 9' would be a little too close for a 60". Would probably be ok for HD and DVD.

When it comes to screens, " I should have gone smaller... " is seldom heard.

When it comes to screens, " I should have gone smaller... " is seldom heard. :rockon:I agree 100%......LOL! I never heard or read of anyone saying that the TV is too big for my room. On the other hand.......I have read people saying that they should of gone BIGGER :wow: I had a 55" rear projection tv in my family room (15x16) for 8 years and never regreted it once. I will be stuffing a Sony 60" KDF-60XS955 in the same room in a couple of days  I will be viewing the tv from 10' away which is more than enough room.
