Hello remmnate
well I have this Sony set (mine is last yr 510) and I love it ! I think it is a great set and
I did a lot of homework to find it. Nice picture, plenty of inputs, good sound,no speaker cloth,
right eye height,cool remote,lots of features,silver cabinet,name,price

Sony had troubles with 2002 models (500 series-flicker issue) , but seem to
have corrected it as I have yet to read of troubles with the 510 or 520 series.
There is another set that I narrowed my search to,it was the Hitachi 51"
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Hitachi-51--HDTV-Monitor--51F510-/sem/rpsm/oid/96208/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
it is a very nice set also. I would find the best deal between these two and
take the plunge (IMHO)
good luck to ya and let us know what ya end up doing ...

does anyone know the major difference between the 510's and 520's it seem to me its just a few bells and whistles. and i would agree that most of the input on the 510's are pretty positive. I appreciate the suggestion on the hitachi ill have to check it out hopefully ill be letting you know what I think of one of them soon.

I've got the 520. As far as I've read, the differences between the two are small, but the 520 comes with an HDMI input which is good to have if you plan to keep it around for a few years.
Overall I'm very pleased. I've yet to try it with an upscaling DVD player, but it looks great with a progressive scan player.

I have the 510 and love it. One of the few diffs is mine has DVI where the 520 has HDMI like derekp said. The front of the tv's have a different layout also. Let us know what you go with!

We bought one from CC in October and have been very pleased so far, We get a fair amount of HD programming from Cablevision, and (almost) everything looks great. It is a great option for inexpensive, big-screen HD viewing.

Hello, Sony fans - I have a troubling question that has been hindering me from taking the plunge for several weeks now.
I've done my homework for a while, and I've decided to go with this model, as I can probably land a good deal at around $1650 or so from Circuit City online (it jumped up from $1520 compared to last Black Friday!!). Compared to the 46" model, this is definitely the better bargain since I feel that spending an additional $200 for a TV stand for the 46" is a waste compared to using that $200 for the 51", which does not require a stand.
My biggest concern remains the same - I live on the third floor of this apartment complex and there are no elevators. The stairwell spirals twice and I am very concerned about managing to get the TV up the stairs (especially around the corners of the spirals)...especially when realizing that the TV is pretty big, wide, deep, and above all: heavy. Is there any other soul out there with experience of moving this RPTV's up stairs with any advice? I can get CC to give me free basic delivery, where they will actually deliver the TV to my living room but again, I still have that concern about having to move a year from now and having to lug that TV down the stairs.
Also, if anybody still has the box for this TV, can anybody give me the measurements of the box? That's so I can definitely know for sure when the TV can be squeezed up the stairwell.
If I can't get an RPTV, I keep dreading the idea of buying a direct view TV, which cost nearly as much for a 34" widescreen one! LCD RPTV's are also too pricey for me even when considering they are much lighter than CRT RPTV's.
Thanks in advance for any input.

I dont have the box anymore but I can tell you its quite a bit bigger than the tv just guessing I would add a foot to all of the published dimensions for the tv. This should get you pretty close to the box size. For some reason in the box it does not seem as heavy as one would think. Unless you have a really tight turn to make I think you could put the box on end and make the corners. But i would ask someone in here that knows if this will affect your tv. Good luck.

I bought the KP-51WS520 about 1 month ago and have to admit that I am not pleased with it for anything other than HD content which is very limited currently with my Sat. Provider (StarChoice) in Canada. SD content is absolutely aweful. I get ghosting and satelites all over the place. Sports are entirely useless in SD mode. I will be calling Sony next week to get it resolved.

I have the 520 and so far i have had no problems with it.
I got it at circuit city for $1399.
The 51" is a nice fit in my living room, just make sure the viewing distance is far enough away. My original setup was a little too close for my liking(about 10' away) and i noticed every little thing when viewing close up but maybe that's just me.
Anyways the tv has a pretty decent picture even while viewing some of the crappier SD channels, and the HD broadcasts are amazing. The menu is easy to use as well, and you will find yourself playing around with the different picture modes to get the one that's just right!
Good Luck with whatever you dcide on!
