For those that have unfortunately been bitten by the Flicker issue, let me forewarn you that there is a possibility it will come back.
I had my 51WS500 start flickering about 3 months after purchase. They sent out a Sony Authorized Repairman out and they fixed the issue with replacement guns and a couple of other small details. After it was done it looked great again.
After 9 more months, it started to flicker again. This time it wasn't a color hue flicker but more of a brightness flicker. I called Sony and they sent out the same repair company, who documented the change. I waited a while, but after calling Sony a couple more times over the course of about 3 weeks, they told me that I would be getting a brand new set.
As of right now I am hoping for the 520, but I won't be disapointed with the 510 either. I wanted to write this to let you know that I pretty much own all Sony products in my house, and have yet to have a major problem. The one here they did have, they have taken care of it, and I am now going to see a new RPTV out of the deal over a year and a half later.
My post here is a statement, and a question though. The statement is I am very happy with their service and responsibility for the issue, and I am going to continue being a Sony customer for a long time.
My question is this: Has anyone here had the flicker issue happen to them again after the set was repaired, and was sent a new TV? I am curious which model you got, and to make sure it was a brand new set. They also told me that if it had convergence problems when it arrived, they would send out the same technician (who also happens to be ISF certified) to do a full calibration for me at no charge.
Anyway, I am hoping I get the 51WS520 out of the deal, but the 510 would be fantastic as well.
