Hi all - Im replacing a 24'' Sony CRT with a new 55'' LCD RPTV. I have a DVD player, XBOX, and HK AVR 520 all hooked up (and cable box). Right now I dont have any electrical problems.

My question: it seems the LCD is going to suck significantly more power. Am I in danger of 1. creating a fire, 2. blowing stuff out, etc.

Running extension cords may be an option, but Im not even sure they are different wires running to the power box.

Help!

I just bought a new 60 inch Sony LCD and it is Energy Star qualified :D It only uses 1.9 amps according to my Monster Power bar. I really don't think that your 55 inch LCD TV would use more than that. Always use the least amount of extension cords as possible.

In the specification section, there should be a power draw in Watts. On a regular 15 Amp circuit, all devices on that circuit, added up in total, should not exceed about 1500 Watts.

BTW, Energy Star has very little to do with what the unit draws when it's on. It typically refers to how little it draws when it's off. Many older pieces of electronics used to have large parasitic draws. Now many only have a Watt or two.

Also, it could refer to an automatic "power save" mode that some electronics enter after a period of time. (Computer CRT monitors for example).

57U.........Thanks for the education about Energy Star :D According to my Sony 60 inch owners manual my TV uses 265 Watts while in use and 20 Watts while in standby.........Is that considered alot?

57U - You are a legend. I think then that I am ok. I just dont want to be plugging the toaster, microwave and vacuum in as well...but sounds like I'm ok.
