I am wondering if it's worth the extra $400 for the newer version of this TV. From what I can tell, both of these TV's are the same, only that newer model has a few more bells and whistles.

From what I can tell the newer model has a Digital Media Input, which I don't consider a necessity.

The newer model also has the built in HD tuner and cable card slot, which probably won't bennefit me. I use the DVR service from Comcast, so it will still require me having an external TV making the tuner and slot useless unless I change by setup.

The newer version has the HDMI input, and the older one hasa DVI input. I can't say much about either one of these inputs since I'm not sure I will be able to utilize either one of these ports. I don't have Comcast's HD box yet, so I don't know if they have either one of these ports, or if they are even utilizing it.

I think I may have more or less answered my own question about if the extra $400 is worth it, but since there seem to be quite a few people with these sets, they can give me first hand experience with this.

Beyond the bells and whistles, I want to make sure the core of these 2 sets are the same. From what I have read I think they are the same.

If you are going to use cable or satellite set top boxes, you really don't need to have the built in tuner and cablecards are still one-way communicators without PPV or IPG access. I compared them both in the store at CC last night for a client and we went with the older model noting no difference in colour, contrast or anything else side-by-side...so if price is the main consideration, buy the older model.
There was a requirement for all sets manfactured after July 1st, if I remember correctly that the if these were 36" diagonal or bigger, the had to have built in digital tuners, hence the reason for the new models (one of them).
