View Full Version : Quick Sony RPLCD question!
My friend a future shop called me today and said if I wanted, he would be able to upgrade my TV for me!
He said I could trade my KF60WE610 for the new KDF60XS955 for only $700cdn extra after taxes, do you guys think this would be a smart decision? so far I am leaning towards yes, from what he tells me the picture is slightly better plus it has 2 HDMI inputs and a much more advanced user menu. But I haven't seen this set in action and he can only do this deal for me because someone special ordered the TV and then cancelled so it never left the wharehouse after it was shipped to them, since Future Shop does not carry this set on the floor or on their website he is able to work me the deal...
Is it something I should jump on?
Thanks in advance,
MAX...

How old is your KF-60WE610?? Are you happy with the picture that it has? I own a Sony KDF-60XS955 and really cannot say enough great things about it :D I am in awe...everytime that I turn on the set. My friends are quite envious of this awesome set, and I can't blame them LOL! Take one guess who is having the Super Bowl party? There have been several improvements in the 60XS over your set. LCD sets are only getting better in each newer model from the previous model just as DLP's are  I think that the $700.00 bucks more for Sonys newest and latest LCD technology is worth it in my book  If your budget can afford it...........GO FOR IT! You can't go wrong with this set...........I absolutely LOVE mine.

max, I would go for it. For $700 you get to upgrade to their latest model which has a 132w bulb versus the we with 100w, and the xbr with a 120w. Plus, it looks alot better.

Considering your remote cost more that $700, I'd say go for it.
:D

You will get LIVE COLOR (fixes blue/green), 5 speakers, 2 HDMI, Advanced Menus (normally hidden in Service Menus), CableCard, and this forum's seal of approval. :)

The only question is "Is there a 70" version?" :drool11:

I think that Max pretty much already had his mind made up before his original post  He just needed a kick in the pants to send him in the right direction. This Sony 60XS is the ice breaker in new technology for TV's in this size range. The set was introduced lower in price than previous models with improved features that other manufacturers will soon follow. The consumer will finish 1st in the long run

They usually reserve the 70 incher for the XBR series, which is yester-tech as of now.

my mind was pretty much made up, but I was checking if others who owned the set thought it was worth it... That way I might have been swayed the other way. GUESS NOT

I guess the 70" would have required a new Sony stand and since your viewing distance is setup for a 60", it wouldn't have worked, anyway.

Sony is waiting for the release of its KDS70XBR100 model with SXRD technology, list price is about 3 grand more, but it offers 1080p and 1920 x 1080 resolution. :drool11:
A forum link you get googling for this model gets you a picture and some interesting info on it http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=28289.
If my Mits dies or runs out of warranty, my next set is this one!
The reason for no 70'' is because I wont be able to fit in through my doorway to the basement unless it is plasma thin. I took some measurments and found out the SXRD will have to wait. plus I didn't plan on upgrading this soon, but my boy made me an offer I cant refuse.
MAX,
I went in to make the exchange today and order my TV. There is a promotion for the Grand Wega Series right now from Sony. "In Canada and maybe the States but I am not sure"
If you buy any Grand Wega just add $500 and you get the matching stand and you get a $600 DVD recorder, plus a bell express view package which I declined because I am a Rogers man... Here is the real kicker, I asked my buddy if I could return my Sony stand with the TV and upgrade them both so the set would match, he said "sure no problem". Since I paid $400 for the stand I only had to throw in a $100 bucks. Then he discounted my package from $6999.99 to $6799.99 so the $700 extra I had to throw in became $600. Then the store was out of Sony DVD recorders, so he gave me a $689.99 dollar gift card which I then threw on my Future Shop account and technically after it was all done the store paid me $89.99 to do the upgrade.
I am one happy camper, I got really lucky today! I brought back a year old TV, got a new one and made money in the process. Someone tell me this happens everyday and I'll start doing more Shopping.
TV should be here wednesday, so I will post pictures as soon as I get everything setup again, and here is a link to the deals on Grand Wega Televisions if anyone in Canada is in the market to make a purchase...

Hey Max.......You lucky dog.......what a bargain :drool11: What a rush I get when I get a bargain like that. I paid $499.00 US dollars for my SU-GW12 stand last week at Best Buy. I got the manager to knock off $300.00 off the floor price. He was NOT very happy about it either....LOL! My KDF-60XS955 is only 10 days old. I did not see the promotion that you mentioned at the Sony style USA site. I will keep an eye out.....and I will go back to the store and coax them out of the DVD if that changes. I did notice that Sony dropped the retail price on this awesome TV by $300.00 more USA bucks thou. Congratulations on your new purchase.....You will never regret it. This TV is SWEET! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Talon
