Sounds like its a great tv from the other posts in here. My question is I have an old dvd player(4 yrs). Do I need to update my DVD player to get the best picture I can from this tv?

Also has anyone got a good source for the stand without paying with an arm or a leg. Thanks for you advice. Looking forward to the new TV. -Chris

Many "old" DVD players are "just fine". Find a way to compare a new one, with your existing player once you get your TV, take back the new one if there's no significant difference.

There are lots of Furniture places that now carry TV stands, both on and off the web. IKEA is one place...

I just received my KDF60XS955 today, I will tell you honestly what I think

1. Picture is not any better than my old Grand Wega 3 on HD, it does do better with analog though.

2.Asthetics are very pleasing to the eye

3.Menu is great, very in-depth

I dont think you can go wrong with it at all, I love mine.

Your 4 year old DVD player doesn't have a digital video output. At best, component.
As your new TV supports a digital video input (HDMI), get a DVD player with this output. Digital to digital is superior to having the tv convert from analog to digital, even if your using component. Every time you convert, you lose. If you have spent the money and have the means to view a digital image(which you do), why would you use an analog output.

Don't knock component outputs.
Many TV's have superior upscaling compared to many players with digital outputs (the Sony sets are apparently excellent in this regard) and leaving your player in 480i and using component inputs can yield excellent results. Worth a try before going out to buy a player with HDMI output to find out the improvement is minimal. Maybe a store will do a comparison setup for you.

I purchased this Sony about a month or 2 ago from Circuit City. I bought a stand there for $209 on sale from $299. It's as pretty and about as matching as the Sony $700 or $800 stand. It comes in various finishes, I got the silver to match. Works great and has plenty of space. Good luck!

BTW, the TV works great. My only thing is that I'm using componant inputs and I'm dyin' to see what improvement HDMI cables will do (if anything).

I got a Samsung 850 to try the HDMI output with upscaling. To my disappointment, the picture quality could not match my old non-PS Pioneer DVD player. I guess Sony's internal upconvert is better than what the 850 can output. The best combination I found was with the Samsung using component output at 480i.

On my 70VS810 Hitachi set, I noticed a difference in the 720p HDMI input on the upscaling LG player I got over the component-only Faroudja chip DVD player, even though both use the DCDi chipsets, so it DOES make a difference both in the DVD players and HDTVs used.

I still like my KDF-60WF655 from my December purchase and I use a Sony DVD changer with their "Cinema Progressive" picture and it has certainly better DVD display on on it than my old JVC DVD player...see my signature by what I mean as to setups.
I have not yet tried the HDMI input on the Sony yet.

Trehouse, so tell me about it when you do...thanks!
