Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has the same problem as I have.

Just bought sony kdf-50we655 last week, it worked fine with beautiful picture quality, esp. with HD channel from dishnetwork. But, last night, when I turn it on, everything was normal in the beginning, and after about 1 minute, it turn black with no sound. I turn it off and waited for about 15 minutes, then turn it on again, this time, the indicator led of "power/standby" flash in green for about 20-30 seconds, then it changed to red and stand still, at the same time, the LAMP led started to flash in red continuously, no picture, no sound. I have to turn it off again, and wait for about 1 maybe 1.5 hours, tried again, the exactly same thing happened, so I gave up and called SONY, they couldn't figure it our what happen, and they gave me the local service center phone number and ask me to contact with them

I already knew that former model of sony 50we610 has the famous name for its bad lamp burn out within a couple of days or weeks or months, but then they said they fix this problem with the new model 50we655, I am wondering if I am the only lucky one to have this problem, or you guys have the similar problem.

Forgotten to mention, during the starting period, there is a slight buzzing sound from rear-right side for about 3 times, every time lasts about 3-6 seconds, and the fan works fine.

Thanks for any input.

Quickest solution take it back if you can (bought at local store and have the proper vehicle). In case you got a lemon why deal with a service call at this point that might re-occur.

Yes... I would take it back to where you bought it from. I have had mine for about a month and no problems at all. Could be a lemon! Good luck and keep us posted on your progress. :usa1:

Thanks for the nice reply.

I bought it online from "ecost.com", and I believe that it's actually from "pcmall.com". The package looks brand new to me and it did work very well for the first 5 days.

The "lemon" means " refurbished"? or repaired item?

Thanks

The "lemon" means " refurbished"? or repaired item?

It's a reference to a device that leaves the factory in a state where it may be predisposed to failure.
(bad parts, poor quality control, etc)

Just an update.

The local sony service people came to my home the other day, and found the "thumbdriver" ( I hope this spelling is correct) for the lamp didn't work, the lamp itself is fine. When turn the TV on, the power led in green and flashes for about 20-30 seconds, then turn into red and at the same time, the lamp started to flash continuously, during this period, there were about 2 maybe 3 times of slight buzzing sound.

Now everything is fine and I still believe this TV is wonderful especially when I watch the HD channel.

Thanks for your guys concern and suggestion.

Best.

Stranger things have happend but it goes to show anything can happen, especailly when it comes to new technology. I've had my 50WE610 since Febuary and no issues. :sherlok:
Good to see it working again, no worst feeling than the one you get when you drop big bux for something and it goes wrong.

yeah, the new tech needs to be tested for some time.

I have another question for price of KDF-50we610 and 655, if you compare these two sets price now, you will find 655 which has built-in HD tuner and card slot etc maybe a little cheaper than 610. From cnet.com, the price for KDF-50we655 is about $2100-2700 and for KDF-50we610, a little higher, very stranger because HD-tuner is about $250-400 if you buy seperately, right?

Anyway, I love 655 very much, maybe one day I will switch dishnetwork HD package to VOOM, I just cann't move my eyes from it, like discovery HD or HD net.

First, take out the lamp and see if it's burn out. If it's not burn out then you should take it back because it has to do with something other than the lamp.
You might not be able to return the TV only if the lamp is burn-out. They'll just order you a new lamp for free since it should last for 2000-3000 hours.
Good luck.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I have tried to search the problems with 610 and 655 both on the internet, the only problem I could find is the lamp related problem, many people said that the quality and design of both these models are excellent, hope they are right.

Have you looked at the prices of thes two models recently? I believe they are very close.

I have the older model (610) in 60 inch. I bought is at Shopsunshine.com
They're incredibly cheap. I have yet to find the cheaper site. The 655 model seems to look more stylish. 655 is slightly higher in price because it has HD tuner. They're excellent TV. I wouldn't trade with any other TV in that price range.

ps. I had to replace my lamp exactly after 1 year. I averaged around 6-7 hours per day.

I averaged around 6-7 hours per day.

Wow... thats over 15,000 hours!

how did you get that number Ratman?

he said he changed the bulb after a year at 6-7 hours a day.

6H x 1 year = 2190 total hours used

7H x 1 year = 2555 total hours used

I had my old WE wegs at that easy and it was still kickin' before I swapped it.

Sorry... my math was wa-a-a-y off!
I multiplied by 365 as opposed to 52.

Spank me....

I also multiplied by 365 not 52.

here is the example

6 hours a day x 365 days a year = 2190
7 hours a day x 365 days a year = 2555

and that's how I came to these numbers, it's O.K Ratman we all make mistakes sometimes.

Geez...

I initially calculated 6hrs. x 7days
Then... 42x365 as opposed to 52.

Simple math hurts me... I dream in binary and hex.

The only answer I can give for the price is as the technology becomes more mainstream the price will go down. A good thing for consumers. The cheapest I found the 610 is $2369.95 and the 655 is $2129.00, so I see what you mean. I'd have to say the vendors have to take a loss on the previous model but still don't want to go less than thier baseline, which might be higher if they paid too much for the older sets. Yet each vendor is on it's own and the bottomline is to move more product. That would be my guess. I say as long as you benefit that's what matters. Enjoy the HD. :sherlok:

Water, did you have a service contract, or did the factory send a repairman out to fix the Sony?

My KDF-50WE655 is supposed to be delivered on Monday.

I have the component cables (RGB). Are these digital, or do you have to buy HDMI cables to stay 100% digital?

:)

Hi, MHK,

I believe Sony has one year warranty for this TV including free parts and free labor, but I still called Sony first, they told me that for model 610 they will ship me the lamp directly, but this model 655 only on the market for a couple of months, so they want the technician to check it, so I called local service company, they sent somebody to my home and found that problem and replace the lamp for me.

I have dishnetwork (HD package, showtime, local channel, great wall package), they brought me the component cables, I think the signal is digital for most of these, they are ok, but the HD channels are amazing, when people said "crystal clear" for HD signal, I cann't get it until I watch it by my own eyes.

HDMI or S-video will sure give you much better images, but even without it, I am still satisfied, maybe I will get these during x'mas.

Hope this will help.

The Component video is THE BEST connection for HD besides DVI or HDMI, so what you have is good to go.
