I like the Sony LCD Projection picture the best, given the price. However, I'm confused by all the models. Can someone point me to the Sony (LCD Projection) model closest to the following requirements: no built-in HDTV tuner, no fancy amps, no cable-card slot, minimum of features (almost just a monitor), lowest cost, smallest unit, best pic. Also, can anyone suggest an LCD Projection unit by another manufacturer that they consider a better pic?

My understanding is that the older models (610, new ones 655-ending) had none of the governmt-mandated digital tuners.
The newest ones all have them including the CableCard slot.
One of our forum members swapped out his 60" Sony LCD RPTV for the newer one because he liked the picture better, so there may have been some picture enchancements going on, too.
Check with www.sonystyle.com for more information of www.crutchfield.com for comparisons...usually these are good websites...hope this helps out.

I swapped out my older Grand wega for the new XS series, the pic with HD is pretty much the same, maybe slightly better blacks. The big difference is with SD images, that was the only major improvement I really noticed.

HD,DVD's,Video Games = slightly better blacks
Standard Def = very pleasing to watch now

As for the Pros of the new set compared to my old one:
-2 HDMI inputs instead of 1 DVI
-Better Asethetics {gloss black around the screen instead of plastic}
-Better Sound quality from the TV {which I never Use}
-Much more in-depth user menu
-Brighter Lamp {132W vs 100W}
-Lamp reduce feature {to extend the life of the bulb}
-independant settings instead of global
-ATSC Tuner {never use}
-CableCard {Never Use}
-Live Color feature
-Optical Output
-Control S x2 for RF
And maybe a few other things that dont come to mind right now, all in all I am very happy with the upgrade.
