Has anyone played either of these xbox games in 720p? Theres no rental place around where I live and I want to know if the resolution upgrade is really apparent, or if its not worth getting the game for. Thanks for any help.

Yeah, I got NBA2k3 and the difference is fairly drastic. There are no jaggies whatsoever and the models look like they're popping off the screen. Great job by SEGA Sports, I hope they can scale the resolution on the NFL, NHL, and MLB games too :)

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 looks awsome and is as good as the reviews say. I have NBA 2k3 and it looks great also, maybe I'll play some of you on Xbox live.

The outside of the game says that 720p, but inside the instruction book it says to set your HDTV to 480p. I don't have an HDTV set yet so I cant try it out. So I am assuming you can play at 480p if your set does not display at 720p.

480p is not Hi-Def so big deal if it displays this format. Almost every Xbox Game displays 480p
i have only tried nba 2k3 and it looks great! but i rather nba live 2003 though :D

I doubt than any of you have a set that actually displays 720p. This is usually converted to 1080i or 480p. I am sure the games still look better though.
Margib, welcome to the forum:
While it's true that only "pixel-based" TVs like LCDs, DLPs and Plasmas can display 720P, there are a number of RPTVs that will "accept" 720P and then "convert" the signal to 1080i. This is better than simply "accepting" 480P from the game console.
I believe that the latest Hitachis and Toshibas accept 720P, but I couldn't swear to it.

How would one tell if you can accept 720p?
I dont own a console game.
Can you set the SA3100 to output 720p or does it convert everything to 1080i?
The spec sheet for the TV usually indicates the scanning rates that it will accept. Some TVs only accept 480i & 1080i. Others accept 480i, 480P, 1080i. Still others accept a wider variety 480i, 480P, 720P, 1080i.
The SA3100HD outputs only 1080i via the component video cables. There is no selection for 720P. The motorola boxes do allow selection.

i own the 50hdx82 by toshiba and here's what it says about 720p...
Improved IDSC™ Pro
This advanced digital scan conversion system allows the TV to accept and display both progressive scan and HD video signals, including 720p. IDSC Pro utilizes line doubling, frame
doubling, pixel doubling, and double sampling for the best possible progressive scan images. IDSC Pro creates a single, no compromise, focus point from any signal for a consistently sharper image.
This is very misleading/deceptive of Toshiba. They say they can accept and display progressive scan and HD. What they don't tell you is that the PS display mode is 540P (same as the Hitachi, which makes components for some of the Toshiba sets). (on some sets the PS mode is 480P)
Here's the clarification from another site on what the TV actually does with 720P.
Improved IDSC™ Pro
This new feature maintains all the benifits of IDSC™ Pro, then adds the ability to accept 720p HDTV signals. The TV will convert all 720p signals to 1080i before display.
Here's the link to that site (65"):

The link to the 50" set does not say what it does, just has the capability statement. See link below:

As I've stated on this forum many times. "I know of no current RPTVs that can natively display 720P."
