Hi all, What would be the best viewing distance for a 52 inch hdtv? Thx recommends 5.8 feet according to this website http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html isnt that to close?

I sit up to 11' away and the TV is plenty big enough. Beats the heck outta watching a 32" that far...

I heard in an article that you want to make sure you sit close enough to make it more life like though.

Although that "calculator" is OK for HD or perhaps DVDs, you cannot watch SD from that distance.

The rule of thumb for purchasing a TV is 2-2.5 times the screen size. In your case, I would suggest 9' for 52".

So for my 30" (diagonal) HDTV the best viewing distance would be 5' - 6'?

Based on the guidelines, a 30" screen would be:
2.5 x 30" = 75"
75" / 12 = 6.25'

Use your best judgement and apply appropriately for your room.
Remember, these are 'guidelines', not a rule.

This will be my first HDTV so I'm trying to figure out how best to setup my viewing location. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
