View Full Version : Triumph over my HOA!!!!!

When I first asked if I could install an antenna the HOA told me to fill out a form for the architectural review board to approve.

I flat out told them to check out the FCCs site. I took them a couple of weeks to get back to me but in the end they said they really can't stop me from putting up a full size antenna if I wanted to.

Of course the preference was the backside of the house but I told them that this would require a higher antenna (add labor and mat'ls cost) to clear the peak of the roof since most of the stations are in front of my house. So it would actually stick out more. I also added that the longer run would entail additional costs (amp, cabling, labor, etc...)

They did not suggest attic or indoor placement but I've talked to Winegard and CM tech support and attic placement reduces reception from at least 30-50% even more if you have alum sidings or like on my house, stucco (chicken wire holds the stucco).

Also DTV like satellite requires line of sight (stated on FCC's OTARD rule).

So I hope this info helps and if anyone wants to know the more details or info I'll be glad to help!

I just got off the roof about an hour ago from FINALLY installing my VU-190XR w/a rotator and I can't wait to hear what my fanatical HOA has to say about this. I live in a fairly new community and have already had numerous bouts w/the HOA from them telling me my grass was too brown earlier this summer (we were in the midst of a drought at the time), wouldn't allow a flag to hang out front after 9/11, and even complained that over the top of a bush (that isn't fully grown yet) on the side of my house they could see the top of my trash can and threatened to fine me for each incident even though I live on a fairly steep slope. While I was up there today I saw a car come to a screeching halt in the road out front to check out what I was doing......hopefully it was a member of the board. :D

You should probably put a beacon light too!!!! LOL!!!LOL!!! HMMMMMM... maybe even a strobe light!!!!

The General MGR wanted me to place the cables in a conduit but I've got a copy of their antenna guidelines before I inquired about this. So I'm not! I'm just going to paint the cables like the guidelines said so.

Well, in order to ensure the most aesthetically pleasing methods I was thinking of hiring the expertise of one JD8 mentioned in the accompanied link provided by Kevin's thread:
