Just got my 55111 with integrated hdtv reciever and firewire input. All I can say is awesome! I am new to the big set scene though, and have a couple questions.

First, how about heat. The only wall I can get it against has a hot water baseboard register along the baseboard. I have the tv put at least a foot, but should I move it, install some sort of a barrier, or I even thought of a small VERY quiet fan to circulate air.

Second, Habout the screen. Just how fragile is it? I have threatened both my kids to stay away or face the wrath, butdo they scratch really easy? And what is the best thing to clean it with?

I look forward to any responses that may gimme a clue. Thanks!

The sets themselves get somewhat warm so if you leave circulation room, that will help. If you can put in some sort of baffle, that would help more.

The screen can be scratched and is prone to fingerprints. Try to convince your kids to keep their hands off. No chemicals allowed. Warm water with a soft cloth only.

Most hot water baseboards allow some type of valve to turn them off, does yours have one?
If you think the room will never freeze (or that will be a BIG problem!) then you could certainly turn off the valve, hence no more heat to that register. If there are other registers in the room, it shouldn't be a big deal - but I'm not a licensed HVAC contractor so if your considering this you should check it out.
If the room DID freeze and the register busted, then thawed, you'd have a nice little fountain probably spraying right onto the back of your set!
I have an older Mitsu (55805) and I don't think it gets that hot (nothing like my stereo!)
A small fan, to me, can never be completely silent so will be an irritant ( oh yeah - you have kids! :p ).
Besides, I'm certain the factory has environmental testing facilities, where these things have to operate in a variety of conditions (though exreme conditions could reduce lifespan or reliability).
Probably a ceiling fan could circulate enough air to keep conditions relatively tolerable around the TV set, as well as provide more comfort for you and yours!
