Well... my deck mounted DB2 was short lived. I got a nasty letter from my homeowners association about it today. I'm familiar with the FCC rule, so I printed out a copy of it highlighting where their bylaws violate it, including a letter explaining how they can't prevent me from mounting an antenna in a non-common area. But in the mean time I took it down.
I'm trying to use this situation as a way to encourage them to mount a decent antenna on the roof that will receive the DTV channels. It wouldn't take much. My building should have excellent line of sight on the roof to the towers and I'm only about 5 miles from them.
I also threw in a rant about how their bylaws prevent satellite dishes as well. I said that if they are going to restrict satellite dishes and antennas, they should look into mounting a community dish for DirecTV to give us some choices for Cable. We'll see how this pans out. Wishful thinking probably, but I really don't see why it would be that big of a deal. I know some apartments and condos provide a satellite hookup in addition to cable so you have a choice. I'm prepared to fight this tooth and nail, but I'm going easy on them for now.
Anyone else have any similar experiences or tips in dealing with stubborn homeowners associations?
