Hello all,
thanks for taking the time to read this post, and if you have any input to the situation, please, by all means reply.
I am moving out in a few weeks and im ready to go to a widescreen rptv. i was at a tweeter store over the weekend and really liked the ws-48311. i like tweeter as they actually seem to know what they are talking about, and their warranty is done through an insurance company verses through them. people at best buy dont seem to know much and just want to sell. i know some poeple who work at a best buy, and they both have told me how horribly the merchandise is handled in the warehouses.
anways, ive read up on the burn in , and plan to let it run 8hrs a day with the contrast at 10% then cool down and repeat until 100hrs is complete. i figure why bother with the avia disc since i really should burn it in first before can really apreciate it. after this has been completed i plan on getting it calibrated professionally. i believe i get one for free anyways with the $250 service plan for 3 years. is his the best way to go about it?

secondly, I play alot of video games. from all the latest consoles to the older ones. i also plan o runing my pc to this tv via the tv out svideo connection. now i know should probably put it in stretch mode so no grey bars show, or even balck for that matter. do you think i willl experience an problems? i dont plan on leaving the games running whle im not around, however off the pc i play alot of older arcade games i have, and they definatley dont support a 16:9! im talking bubble bobble and double dragon here-
will i be ok? or should i just get a 36 inch flat screen?

finally, do i need to wrry about a progressive scan dvd player with this model of tv? if its gonna be close then i wont waste the money. im being honest here, but i play more games than anything, but i do like the occasional movie and tv show on hbo.

thanks for the help in advance!

I have an xbox and just use the HDTV hookup that it has for it and use it as a DVD player and it looks great. I have the ws-55859. If it were me and you have an xbox I personally wouldnt waste the money on a ps player yet. But thats my opinion. I hooked a progressive scan player up to my tv the other day and at least on mine the xbox looked the same. The line doubler in the tv is pretty good, but like I said thats my opinion someone else may disagree.

By the way good taste in logo. ha ha

ill have to see.
im really debating between this tv, or save a grand and get a 36 inch since i really do play alot of games.
someone help me down the right path!:p

You will probably get a very basic setup with your service plan, probably not even as good as you can do with AVIA or similar setup disk, since a pro-calibration costs that much money all by itself.

Ask and you will find out.

One thing to consider- Is your television a short term purchase or something you plan on lasting about 10 years? Even though your user habits run towards games that doesn't mean they will 2-3 years from now. That is why I recomend the larger RP tv.
As for DVD player the general consensus has been if you need a NEW DVD player then get a progressive scan maodel. Otherwise continue what your doing as most line doublers in TV's are equal or better than most low cost PS players.

I would also consider Sears as a purchase place as for the low cost-price match even internet prices- and superb customer service.

I would also suggest that you set up with a calibratiion disc sooner than later. Why use your TV for so long at setting that are not the best?

wow
i didnt know sears sold mitsubishi.
well, i know i will play games down the road, but i want a tv that will last 10 years,
ive heard nothing but good things about mitsu when it comes to this.
i should see if the tv has a svga input but i highly doubt it.

so you guys are reccomending i wait the 100 hours and then do the avia?

thats fine with me, i doubt its the same as a pro job but if its close enough then ill just do that.
just want to be clear that i should wait until after its burned in (100 hours) before i use the avia?

thanks-

No, do it as soon as you get it home..As your set breaks in you will need to do again. After the 100 hours check it again and then again every 6 mos or so.

A calibration by a service tech, ISF trained, after the 100 hours to have the convergence, focus etc taken care. Unless your real handy and have no fear of doing damage to your TV, then you can do some of these tweaks yourself. See our Tweaks section for tips and sights to guide you.

One thing about games make sure you vary the game and do not play the same game for hours on time. Static images such as life meters etc can burn into the screen.

I bet your log in name gets a few chuckles at the hostess stand;)

again,
thanks for the prompt responses. I really do appreciate the help.
I have been looking at the sears site and they do indeed cary the one i want. however i cant find any sites that offer thie ws-48311 for under $2199.00 if i could (providing the store is a local chain and the price includes shipping and delivery) i would get 10% off of the cheapest price! pretty cool. I guess the avia is the way to go then, and i will have to buy one as well. if it wont hurt the tv then thats fine with me. now to see what kind of warranty sears offers vs. tweeter and best buy since i cant think of any other chains that sell mistu.
:(

Sears offers one of the most comprehensive service contracts on the market. Sears has the largest fleet of technicians in the world and the nice things is if they mess something up your dealing with Sears and Sears will make sure they take care of you. The prices for the service contracts are as follows 5 Year In-Home Service 479.99 and they offer a 3 year for 279.99 both of which are renewable.

wow leth, the rep at sears just said everything you did right doen to the t. are you sure you dont work for sears?:p

anyways, the guy at tweeter didnt know to much on their warranty, as they go through some company called aon.
I dont know how these contracts are, and how well they treat customers. yeah the warranty is cheaper by 30 bux and the delivery is cheaper by 10 bux, but maybe its money well spent?
make up my mind for me you guys have the experience in this field!:)
also, i asked if sears warranty included a isf calibration. they said no, but they do have a yearly inspection, which incudes replacing parts that need replacing to make it look "factory new".
so i guess ill just avia it. when i told the rep about the isf calibration, she said that i wouldnt need it since it had 64 point something or other for red green and blue. she said i wouldnt need avia either, but i doubt that.
so should i go for the sears?
i guess so?

Yes KMH, as you probably noticed I said exactly what the Sears Rep said as I work for Sears. I've been there for 3 years and I believe and stand behind Sears and recommend it as one of the best places to buy anything. Sears is the only place that will do whatever takes to fix your problem should you have one. As for what the Sears lady said about the AVIA disc and the ISF calibration that is all up to you. Certainly the AVIA disc wouldn't hurt but the ISF Calibration can be had without. If you pick up a set and go through the settings as they are described here (not fiddling with the Service Menu in any way) you should be able to achieve a very good picture that for most people is by far good enough. There are a few technoheads out here that like to squeeze every drop of performance from there TV. What I would recommend is getting a TV going through the AVIA and then deciding from there whether you think you need/want a professional calibration done.

alright,
you sold me. damn your good.
so do you get the commission sale? i will go with sears.
this tv better be the best i can find for the price of 2200 bux.
although it does depend on the veiwer on whats best,
i hope mitsu is a tv that lasts!
thanks for all the help.
im sure ill be back.

Leth,

I live just outside Little Rock, Ark. and am in the process of buying a 2003 Mits 65" WS-65611 (Platinum Plus) HDTV with integrated tunner. Since Little Rock is not a large metropolitan area, my ability to "shop around" for best pricing and service on a high end Mits is very limited (actually zero). We have one old time high end A/V store that handles all the Mitsubishi models. Any other stores in this area, including Sears, that handle Mits HDTV's only carry the "lower end" Gold Series.

I would love to buy my Mits from Sears if they had it. Do you know if Sears can get the WS-65611? If so, who can I contact to get pricing, etc.?

I presently have this Mits ordered from my local privately owned A/V store at a price of $3,999. My set should arrive any day now (been on order two weeks), but I can cancel the order if I choose.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Mike

Mike Sears does not Carry the 611 Line (platinum plus) but we just picked up the 511 line (platinum series). If you live in a smaller area the store in your area is probably a lower volume store and as a result probably does not have it on display for you to see. The store should be able to order the 511 for you. As for the 611, Sears wouldn't be able to get that for you. The biggest problem for Sears is that Sears is one of the leading retailers of projection TVs and it is very difficult for manufacturers to provide the higher end lines in the quantities that Sears would require. As a result Sears has not been able to aquire the higher end Sonys (XBR and the like), The Toshiba Cinema Series (HDX line) and the higher end Platinum Plus and Diamond Mitsubishi lines. The only high end lines that Sears has been able to aquire is the Hitachi SWX series and XWX series which are Hitachi's top of line models.

PS Mike if you do want to inquire about the pricing of the Platinum line of Mitsubishis at Sears ask for Stock #s 54178, 54188 and 54198. We just got the 511 line available. A lot of the associates may not know a thing about them.

Leth, Thanks for the great information on Sears. I will check out the stock numbers you suggested.
