I realize that there is a format fight going on between two competing formats for HD DVDs. My question is, how will I connect the new DVD player, whichever format wins, into my HD television? I have Video inputs, HDMI, and component inputs on my TV. Or has this not yet been decided, and will my eight month old Panasonic TV be obsolete?
Thanks in advance,
Flyboy
Either HDMI or DVI
It will have component but it will be downrezzed to 480p

Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought that the component input is an analog input. Wouldn't HD DVD players use a digital input?
Oh, I'm sorry I didn't realize you were asking what inputs would record HD. Hmm, I'm not sure. It would probably still be firewire like there using now.
Edit, I think you were talking about watching HD-DVDs, which will still hold to my previous reply. The DVI/HDMI outputs would provide HD resolution and the Component output would provide SD resolution (this is only because of copy protection)
I don't know why you think that because something is digital it can't output through Component, this is exactly how HD STBs work today.

Component should work fine for HD-DVD players. There are already DVD players that upconvert to 720p and 1080i over component, and all HD receivers can use component too.
DVI/HDMI will be preferred, but component will not be going away.

HD-DVD/Blu-Ray may work over component. No solid standards yet.
Although there are upscaling DVD players on the market, there are only a 'few' that still can upscale via component.
There are 'hacks' for some make/models to enable this feature if not component capable.
