I have a Hitachi 53sdx01b TV. Doesn't have DVI on it. Whats the best DVD player I should buy for this TV. I'm not to sure what to get since this isn't the newest HD Ready tv on the market and I'm sure its pretty outdated. I want the best DVD quality picture I can get. I would be hooking it up via Component.
Any help would be appricated

Many forum posts indicate everyone's favourite player.
I have had good success with the Pioneer 563 and its replacement for both great picture and DVD-A and SACD future purchases and it costs under $149.
The JVC progressive scan player I had was inferior, IMO, so I got rid of it.
I have a new Denon 1910 with Faroudja processing using component because others with similar displays like yours and mine were impressed with it...got mine for $229.
Sony has a nice DVD player with Cinema Progressive playback-its version of de-interlacing and it works fine on my Sony setup, too, though it is LCD...
Just my experiences and I hope this helps you out.

I also second the denon. But since you don't have DVI - I would probably stay away from the upconverting ones unless you find one that still does upconversion over component. Just go with a good progressive scan model that fits your price range.

I've been reading these fourms for a few days and thought the denon 1910 looked like the best to go. Does the denon do upconversion over component? or do any? I'm trying to keep price out of it. I bought the Samsung 841 and was playing around with it and the pic quality compared to my old dvd player was noticeable but I really just didn't feel comfortable with that unit and after reading the fourms I see that a lot of the issues I felt with it were addressed here.

I kinda had my eye on this player, and wondered what everyone thought of it . . .
(it does 1080i via Y,Pb,Pr)
price is not that much better than that fine 1910 model

Hey Blaster me too, It sounds too good to be true.
But i would probably just wait for the REAL HD DVD players when they come out.
