Annoying delay in channel changing on HD DVR Box

Does anyone using the standard HD DVR box (the one where the DVI port is inactive) have an issue where it takes almost 5 seconds to change from one channel to the next. This is even more pronounced when going from an HD channel to a non HD channel.

I know when I switched from a regular box to a DVR box 2 years ago, the lag between channel changes increased, but it was still fairly quick. Changing channels now is fairly grueling.

Any insight appreciated. jake

It takes about 2-3 seconds to change channels if the format is the same. If you change formats (say 720P to 1080i or 1080i to 480i) then the change is about 5 seconds.

See the FAQ on "Tips for SA STBs" for recommendations on how to minimize this when surfing the HD channels... (near the end of the FAQ)

You didn't mention the STB. I'm assuming it's the SA8300HD or the SA8000HD.

I find this is a non-issue because I don't waste my time channel surfing. I simply watch what I've got recorded on my DVR.

hey jake. Other then that problem, do you recommend getting the hd box if I can already get cbs, nbc, abc, tnt, and discovery hd? Does it make regular 480i tv better, just because?

I have found the analog channels are no better on the cable box. Assuming we are indeed talking about the SA8300HD.

Thanks. Everyone is saying that. Hey Jake!!!!! Ever since I read your post, I have been extremely annoyed by the time it takes to change from one HD channel to a regular one or even HD to HD. Thanks a lot!!! :sobbing:

It is just so noticeable now...ugh!!!!
