I have the P+ series 65869 with intergrated tuner. The only HD broadcast in NY available is CBS. I don't know if CBS transmits their signal in 5.1 sound. I don't think I have an optical output on the TV. I have connected my DVD audio by the optical output to the receiver for 5.1. How do I hook my HDTV to my tuner to obtain 5.1 if available?
CBC, NBC and Fox are all DD2.0. ABC is DD5.1, but only the network originating programming is DD5.1, the local stuff will "show" as DD5.1, but will only come out of the LF & RF speakers. PBS sometimes has DD5.1 material and some of the movies shown on HD movie networks are DD5.1.
ABC also have occasional problems with their DD5.1, for example nothing was DD5.1 from HDABC Detroit last Sunday. I haven't checked lately.
A very select few NBC stations carried the February Olympics in DD5.1, but I haven't seen any DD5.1 from them since.
To connect your HD Tuner to your receiver, you need either a TOSLink (optical) connection or a digital coax (looks like a regular RCA cable). If your receiver only has "the wrong" connection, you'll need a converter of some kind (some receivers only have TOSLink).

Use digital coax. The output is on your HD tuner. I did it, and HD OTA sounds great.

It should be right above where you would put the upgrade cards on the HD tuner in back. I think it should be on the left hand side it will be a coax that says digital audio out. At least that is how it is on my 55859. Hope this helps some. Sorry if it doesn't.
