Went to Circuit City to purchase demo of DTC-100 which they have marked down to $300. Seems like a pretty good deal! I was all set to buy it, then they asked if I already had DirectTV. I said I did not and that I didn't intend to get it. I just want the DTC-100 for OTA DTV, not DirectTV. They said that if I didn't signup for DirectTV within some time period after purchase, that DirectTV would fine me $250.

Is that part of the deal when buying a DTC-100? Do you have to get DirectTV?

Thanks...

All of the DirecTV receivers have that clause. The receivers actually cost more to make than they are being sold for. DTV is giving kick backs to sellers to sign people up to DTV. Just read the fine print. Sometimes they will fine you if you don't sign up in 30 days but it says nothing about when you can cancel. Some make you sign a 12 mo. contract.

Watch out, they will charge your credit card without warning.

If Your not interested in being tied to a satelite provider, take a look at the Samsung or search for a used Sharp or Pioneer(hard to find, not many sold because they were very expensive at the time)

I have the Panasonic TU-HDS20. Works great. Originally had the RCA DTC100 - the OTA reciever was not nearly as sensitive as the Panasonic, plus it was a piece of crap.

It's not RCA's fault regarding the DirecTV kickback, it is the seller, in this case Circuit City.
Many stores negotiate reimbursements with DirecTV for subscribers, other like us, do not.
Just be sure to read the fine print and ask questions before you make the purchase.
