I have owned my sony kv-34hs420 for a few months now and have Comcast HD Cable and have noticed a small decrease in my HD Programming Quality over this time. I've had Comcast replace the box and investigate this problem and they said I'm doing everything right. Any suggestions on how to improve my HD Picture to "Crystal" Clear???? Its still very good, but not the best picture. Knowing what I paid for my TV And Cable each month, I expect a perfect picture. Thanks.

My non HD Programming is very poor and I'm very dissapointed in the quality of the picture. Does anybody have any idea on how to improve my 4:3 programming on my KV-34HS420 TV w/ Comcast HD Cable? There must be someway. Thanks.

I have the same tv. A few things. The tv wont look good if you keep your cable box in 1080i mode even if you dont use your hd.( Im guessing you have hd). I have to do 2 things to make mine look better. First, switch back to 480i mode on your cable receiver and dont use the stretch modes that come with the tv(zoom, full, etc.) second, another good work around that i found on these very forums and works great is to split your incoming signal( send one signal from your cable straight thru to the tv dont use your cable box and put the second signal into your cable box for your hd). Its kind of a pain but the analog sd signals look way better going stright into the tv.

What kind of hd box do you have?

i have adelphia with the moxi dvr
my cable looks horrible coming out of the box, but for some reason looks great going stright into the tv and using the sony tuner...go figure...but hd looks great on the sony...better than most plasmas and projections that i have seen...

I'm kinda new to this hdtv stuff, how do you switch back to 480i?

I always use the cable remote to stretch the screen and the banner always indicates it's 1080i.

Some of my sd channels are real crappy looking too but i think it has alot to do with the channel broadcast itself. For instance my UPN looks a bit grainy but ABC and FOX come itn much clearer. Also my Philly CBS is alot fuzzier than the NY CBS.
Also when i'm watching football regardless of which channel it's on not broadcast in HD the players look out of focus the farther the camera pulls back, but they look real clear when the camera zooms in close.

I use Comcast i believe it's an Explorer box maybe a 3500 i'm not too sure.

See the FAQ on Tips for SA STBs. If you have a Motorola, press the menu button while the STB is off.

I have the same setup (SONY HDTV, Comcast Digital Box) and watch HD exclusively at home and am shocked to see how bad my friends and relatives SD tv's are when I visit. It could be that you're now used to HD and everything else looks terrible in comparison? (but if your HD stuff looks bad after setting your cable box to 1080i, then definitely get Comcast out to take a look)

My TV is sony KV-34HS420 and i have comcast HD TV with the DCT5100 Motorola cable box. My HD Picture is a little "fuzzy" and "grainy" and was wondering what, if anything i can do to get the sharpest picture possible. I've noticed a small decrease in picture quality since i've owned the TV for 4 months now.

Also, my when watching non HD programs on my 16:9 HD set, the picture quality is very poor and fuzzy. I was told that's just the way it is becasue the box can't handle both the analog/digital signals together. I didn't buy what the comcast cable guy told me.

I'm hoping theres a way to get a clearer HD regular non-HD picture. Who's gonna come to my rescue. I appreciate any help. Thanks.
