Yes you could if any of the text or images stay in the same location on the screen...

Q. Why do the images change position at the beginning of each song through my digital cable service? Does this prevent TV screen burn in?
A. Music Choice has recently introduced a new screen design for the MUSIC CHOICE® service with the addition of text and graphics, including album art, artist facts and trivia, to accompany your favorite music. Due to these design changes, the screen savers are no longer provided. In response to concerns regarding potential TV screen burn-in while listening to MUSIC CHOICE®, we have implemented a graphic rotation plan in which the logo, album art, channel name and other screen images rotate through multiple positions as the screen changes. Please note that burn-in may result from numerous variables, such as leaving static images on screen for extended periods of time at high brightness/contrast settings. Music Choice designed its service in accordance with guidelines it believes are generally more conservative than industry standards, such as using reduced color contrast and brightness settings for its graphics. While Music Choice has taken the above steps, television type and viewer usage pattern and practices will ultimately determine the chance of burn-in. Again, television manufacturers are the best resource regarding this issue.
Ok, so is that a yes or no? :headscrat

DO NOT leave the TV on after locating the channel you want. Burn-in can and will occur upon hours of display. Tell her to turn the TV off and just use the STB's front panel to see what channel is on.

That is what I thought, When I come home from work and she has it on, i turn off the tv and tell her over and over, I guess im going to have to sit down with her and reexplane burn in, cause and effect.

Dunno but it encourages me to try it again. I found the audio quality and repertoire less than expected and I was put off by the burn-in concern. Now, mebbe they deserve another shot.

Chances are you won't get burn-in. However, you will still prematurely wear out the phosphors for no reason. Since no one is actually watch what is on the screen and you have the audio correctly hooked up from the 8300 directly to the receiver, why have the TV on? Having it on to watch TV 3 hours in the evening is a whole lot different relative to longevity than having it on 10 hours during the day while she is only listening to music. Simply tell her that what she is doing now will only cause you to have to replace it about 3 times as quickly as you should. I'm sure she'll see the economics of that. :)

We have a big 150 watt light to use the staircase to go down the playroom. My wife always leaves it on...she never, never, never shuts it off. After telling her over 200 times, I now simply shut it down myself whenever I pass by.
You may have a similar problem having her shutdown the TV.

I've already caught my wife leaving the Tivo HMO screen up when she's listening to mp3's regardless how many times I've explained burn in to her... She likes to leave all the lights on in the house too.. good luck :)

My wife never touches any of the electronics in any of the systems when I am not around. I guess it scared her when we first moved in together; she found out how much the Koetsu cartridge cost and she blew out one of the Apogee ribbon tweeters. Now, she touches nothing but the plain old TV in the den.

I come home from work every night to find my wife screwed up something else with tv or cd player. And she too likes to leave on all the lights in the house!

There are exceptions to the women and electronics thought. I am the one who sets up our electronics. My father taught/trained his children well in turning the lights off so that is not a problem for me either.
I usually just find the digital music channel I want to listen to and turn off our TV.

Rules for relationships
1. Electronics are mine.
2. You will use them the way i tell you.
3. The living room will be arranged according to the home theater set up i choose.
4. The rest of the house is free reign for you to design ANYWAY U SEE FIT.!!

But they always want to hide the wires, components and the speakers...
