Hi All-
I'm having digital cable with the HD package installed tomorrow morning. I have heard that the best way to do this is to split the cable and have one line going directly into the TV and the other going into the STB.
My TV has an "out" for cable, and I was wondering if it would be better to have the "out" from the TV run into the STB instead of using a splitter. Will this have any effect on the digital and HD channels?
Any advice you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

Use a splitter, I believe there is a higher signal loss going through the TV...

Can you explain why you would want to do this at all? Shouldn't you just connect the cable to the STB and then use component or DVI cables to connect the STB to the TV?

With motorolas, and others I'm sure, you can get a better pic on the SD channels.

The TV's tuner tends to have better electronics to clean up the analog SD channels then the tuner in the STB...

Great, another thing to confuse my wife and our all-in-one remote, let's see :)

Use the Comp 1 input for digital stations and HD
Use the Ant 1 input for regular stations
Use the Comp 2 input for DVDs
Use the Video 1 input for Tapes

It also seems the audio sounds better going through the TV tuner than the STB.

BTW, thanks for all the great info on this site, been very beneficial for a new Panny Plasma owner with HD!

EDIT -- Fortunately, just read this on AVS so now I basically can get everything through the Ant 1 input on my Panny Plasma without the need for the STB. 3 inputs to scroll through rather than 4, but no more confusion for TV viewing, hopefully :)

You cannot go "through" the TV as this prevents the two-way communication for digital STBs.
