Zenith E44W46LCD PIP and Sound

I just bought the Zenith E44W46LCD at Best Buy and am awaiting my HDTV service from Insight Cable.
In the meantime, I connected the set to my regular Digital Cable box.
The box has the regular cable connection as well as the red-white-yellow component hookups. I connected first using the components into video 1 but the set didn't communicate. I had to connect using the cable connection from the box to the set. My problem is that I only get mono sound. Even my 8 year old 32 in GE gave stereo.
Also, I have to use the Cable box to change channels and can't get PIP to do anything except the same cable channel. Is it not going to be possible to use PIP for the cable channles?

OK
I was able to get the Red-White-Yellow connection to work. I had to disconnect the cable input.
I still can't get any PIP to work.
The stereo sound works with the RCA hookup.
Please help on PIP

Got it.
I had to split the signal at the wall, which I had hoped I would not have to do as it seems to be affecting the digital quality.
