All of a sudden, when I turned on my tv there was these green horizontal lines streaking through the middle of my screen and distorting the picture too. I tried adjusting the convergence points, but that wasnt the problem. I also opened the tv and it seemed like the crt beams were working fine. Well, after getting a TV-technician to come in and replacing some small component inside, my wallet was $250 lighter
:mecry:
My AV-wp30 56" is only 2 years old too. If you guys run up on similar problems let me know

I have the 48" version of your TV, and the same sort of thing happened to me. Mine, also, is about 2 years old. We were watching a DVD and suddenly the red convergence control went out. Red lines were surrounding everything. Luckily, I bought the ext. warranty and didn't have to pay any out of pocket at this time. The ext. warranty paid for itself in one problem.

I, too, also have the 48" version (3 years old). It is having a problem with convergence on the upper left of the screen (almost 1/4 of the screen shows ghost images). It got so bad that I have to contact for service. They came and took the set away. That was 2 weeks ago. Still haven't heard anything from the service center yet.

My AV-56WP30 also broke after 2 years.
The first problem was an IC board that needed to be replaced. When I got the TV back from the repair center, the DVI input no longer worked.
JVC does a heck of a job stocking parts because the DVI part has been on backorder for 3 WEEKS! :boo2:

I'm not kidding!
JVC HD TVs are a pile of junk.
I finally got my DVI part installed and guess what! The DVI input still doesn't work.
My TV has been broken since the last week in March and today is June 5th.

*#!$!#, just called the service center and asked for the status of my TV. They told me to hold while they contact JVC to see what the hold up on the part. To make a long story short, JVC told them the part "May, or may not be available for shipping in 1-1 1/2 month   "
As of today, time TV in the shop = 2 months + 10 days and counting.... :sobbing:

I like JVC audio but am less than impressed with their video offerings.
If you live neer the JVC repair center in NJ the turn around time on repairs is phoenominally fast.

JVC HD TVs are a pile of junk. It's too bad people post comments as this just because of a parts issue.
The DVI/HDMI interface as with all new interfaces is/has been a problem for many manufactures.
You can't blast any manufacture just because YOU have a problem with a single set.
It's not a "piece of junk' it's new technology. Use a component input instead.

I have a AV-48WP30 too. Today, the upper left and lower right convergence seemed to have gone bad. I think it's the green one. Any ideas on how to fix this. The TV is about three years old. No issues until today. We've been very happy with it too.

I'll bet if you had the same problem that these people are having you'd feel the same way. Actually they are doing people a service when they let it be known of the miserable service they are receiving from a certain vendor. Personally I feel this is one of the main purposes of this forum. When something is good, great let it be known but the same holds true of lousy performance/service.

I have a AV-48WP30 too. Three years and it finally said good night. I guess after investing $2000 in a television set it isn't worth saying we haven't have any problems until now. JVC seems to have it timed just right for those who didn't get extended warranties. 2 - 3 years and it dies. What happened to the days when you could have a television set that cost $150 and lasted for 10 years?

Any have any recommendations with what to do with the set? Is it worth trying to fix it? What would you replace it with?

I wish I had one. I don't think it's worth spending $175 just for the tech to come out to my home then potentially spend up to $900 for parts on a TV that was purchased 3 years ago for $2000. My wife and I are going to permanently downgrade to a much smaller LCD HD (20''). We can just move the TV around the house that way rather than having a huge eyesore that is a ticking timebomb in the living area. I don't think we are ever going to trust expensive electronics again. They definitely don't make them to last. I don't see us buying another JVC product in the near future. Oh well, a lesson learned the hard way!

I'm very glad that you love your JVC and that you've had a trouble free set.
I hope you continue to have a trouble free set for many years to come.
My JVC HDTV however was broken for over 4 months and was just declared UNREPAIRABLE.
I owned a 2 and 1/2 year old JVC HDTV and it's unrepairable. Well, there's $2000 well spent wouldn't you say?
I wish I had known before hand that there was an age limit before buying an HDTV. I would have waited to make my purchase so I wouldn't have wasted $2000. Was it JVC's GARBAGE or was it because I wasn't old enough? I will put my money on the manufacturer. Care to make a wager?

I think you randomly got one in the defective percentage of production, dont make it seem like Jvc decided that they wanted you to have a bad tv.
and im suprised the moderators even let you scream out things in huge font, I yell enough in real life to keep it outa here

Woo hoo....
Finally got my TV back................
Everything is working fine now. But I'll keep my finger crossed..........
4/11 to 8/15/05!!! Only 4 months and 4 days to get it fixed. Good thing that it still under warranty (on the last year of the 3 years extended warranty) otherwise it would cost me $855.00 (almost the cost of getting a new set!!!)
Anyway, the warranty is expiring soon so I hope nothing else is going wrong with this set. If it die again, I'll just go out and buy a new set.
Don't get me wrong, JVC made great TV sets. It just their stocking for repair parts that suck big time. If anyone think that it take 3 1/2 month to get a part to repair the TV is OK, they need to have their head examine :D
to cza2791, good luck my friend. personally, if you have the same problem as mine. I'll just go out and buy a new set.

Mine just died today. I just get a solid power light and a high freq chirping /clicking noise. I think I have a 3 year warranty with best buy. Hope it's still good!

:boo2: My red convergence on my AV-48WP30 went out of alignment about 2 weeks ago. I purchased the set about 3.5 years ago and after reading everyone's coments I just realized that I purchased a piece of junk. It seems that too many people are having the same problem. This is not a coincidence, this is bad quality and poor engineering. This is what I get for not buying a Sony!!! Anyway I started taking the back panel on the back and I was able to locate the convergence board. I looked at the partstore, and they want $312.95 for a new board. It looks like it's no big deal to switch the boards. My question is wether or not is worth to fix it. Any suggestions?

i am having problems with my new (three days) hd56g786 d-ila tv i had it on for 6 hours and now only thing i get is a green screen. i am connected to directv and thier receiver checked out o.k.. jvc customer service is a joke. they are on thier on timetable and do not care about thier customers. i was on the phone with them today for 6 hours finally i called the jvc repairmen in my area (35 miles from my residence) but they refused to come out because jvc does not pay them enough to go that far!!. without further authorization from jvc they will not come. i called jvc back and they would have to notify thier consumer affairs which could take 5 working days for authorization. i called them myself was put on voice by three different people i even called the head of consumer affairs and guess what all i got was voice mail. if you area tv stations has problem solvers call them and tell them your story , they love to go after companies like that.
this is not a few disgruntled customers but seems to be a trend go on forums on the internet and type in jvc support problems and see what you get

Well add me to the JVC junk pile. My 2 year old AV-48WP34 just died 2 nights ago. I have a pulsing green screen, concave at the bottom that covers only the top 2/3 of the screen. I can see the menu screen however it is tiny and distorted. I paid over $1600 for this TV and up until now it's been great. Does anybody have any idea what part might have gone bad? I live on the 3rd floor and no one will come out to look at it. Should I just throw it off the balcony? I am 45 years old so I don't need to grow up. However if this TV can not be fixed I assure you I will never spend another cent on a JVC product. Can anyone help me? Those of you that had this problem and had the Tv fixed, what part went bad? Thanks in advance.
Bob
