I have a 51" Sony and it has 2 component input. My problem is I need one more component input. I have a Dish 811, HK DVD 22, and now my xbox I want to connect by using the component input. If I connect the Dish receiver by using DVI, that would give me an extra component input for my xbox. Would that work?

that is how my 51" Sony is hooked up

-stb/DVI
-DVD/Y,Pb,Pr
-XBOX/Y,Pb,Pr

Thats a question you shouldn't have to ask. That's what the DVI input is for.

He was asking because he's connecting two components to one input. This doesn't work if the DVI component is always "live" as it is with many cable STBs... since it'll "override" the component video input on that input.

yes I understand what your saying. I've seen sets that gives
you 'option' DVI or Y,Pb,Pr for same 'input'
but my 51" Sony has them separate as I modified below
since citronbull didn't give his full model # , not sure of his config...

-stb/DVI = video 7
-DVD/Y,Pb,Pr = video 6
-XBOX/Y,Pb,Pr = video 5

I would get a component switcher or an A/V switcher that can toggle between what you need if the DVI make one component input dead.

If you click on the search tool and type in "component video switcher" there is a great thread with many ways to fix your problem. My favorite is the tee splitters from Radio Shack the Hippie uses.

sorry didn't know that. If I sounded nasty I didn't mean to.

You could also get a good quality A/V Receiver that has component in/out and has the bandwidth to pass HD signals through. Check on the Onkyo TX-SR601 and above, or comperable Denon, Kenwood, Yamaha, etc. My Onkyo has the pass through that solved the same problem you face.

I use to own this and it worked great you can connect multiple hidef sources with this using your component input on the back of your tv
