Well, I don't know if anyone remembers my questions regarding the possibility of trading up my WS-55411 (which I really liked) for last year's WS-65869... After doing a TON of thinking, I decided to go for it.

My dad purchased last years WS-65909 (hope that is the right model - Diamond 65") and when I'd go back and look at my 55", it looked a bit smaller.. which is ridiculous because 55" is still big. So, the size thing really didn't bother me, because my 55" fit the room well. The thing that made me think twice was the price difference to go to the larger set with a built in HD Receiver.

I paid $2400 for my WS-55411 which I felt was a good deal... but the store I purchased it from had the WS-65869 and WS-65909 (Plat+ and Diamond respectively) on closeout a week later because they were last year's models. At that point, it was only my dad looking to get the Diamond becuase I had already purchased mine. He picked that up for $3300! - which was a huge savings over what it was selling for. Then, I noticed how much they wanted for the Plat+ - $2800! Only $400 more than what I had paid for my 55". I talked to them and arranged to trade up. I just picked up the TV today, and it is sitting at home right now all unwrapped. Tonight after work I need to hook it up, so I really can't say I love it yet (even know I will).

Overall, I thought it was a better value, and I wanted to thank the people here that gave me some advice on it! I was partially jealous of my dad having the built in tuner, because HD broadcasts look absolutely beautiful!

I'll keep everyone up to date as I try different things out!

Thanks again!

That is excellent to hear! It also sounds like you got an incredible deal on yours! That is a good price.

Did you have to do any adjusting when you first got it (Convergence)? I played around with that a little bit last night. I have also ready about people using the Avia disc to do their adjustments. I'd like to know if it is something I should get ahold of.

I had a few people over last night and we watched Sleepy Hollow to kind of go along with the whole Halloween thing - and noticed some haloing or other lines that I don't think should have been there - but I need to look at some other discs to see if it just happened to be the DVD itself. I have a good set of component cables I'm using, and I have the Pioneer DV-434 Player (I think that is the model). It isn't a "True 3:2 Pull-down" progressive player, but it looks very nice on my TV, and seems as if there is an INCREDIBLE difference between it's Interlaced mode and it's Progressive mode.

I was also please ad how the HDTV broadcasts looked! One word: Beautiful! I never thought regular OTA broadcasts could look so good.

Other than that, I hope to have more time to sit down with it this weekend and fine tune everything.

I love it!

Dustin: If you haven't done so already, go into the FAQ section (6th one down on the home page) and check out the post "what to do to my new HDTV".

Of course, check out all the other FAQs which can be helpful to those new to HDTV.
