JVC i' ART (AV-48WP30)! PLEASE HELP! TV FLASHING CODE

Can anybody help me with my JVC i' ART (AV-48WP30). I had a problem with converence and my son opened up the back because there were spiders walking on the inside of the screen, which he thought were messing up the convergence. Then he closed it back up. My TV is still under warranty, but now there is a symbol in the corner of the menu. It is like a yellow box, with the words JVC in it. There are like too open flaps on the back of the box that open and close. On top of the flaps is a flashing white gun that is on blue background/screen. I interperet it as somethings saying we messed with the back of the TV, maybe to viod the warranty. It looks something like this: ___

How can I clear this code? Is, my SEARS* warranty valid now. :headscrat

H-m-m-m... if there's a problem with a 'new' TV under warranty, the last thing I would do is have my son/daughter mess around with my A/V gear unless they were authorized technicians.

Legally... any access to 'non-user' areas (software/hardware) can void your warranty.

I hope someone can bail you out.

Do you know if for sure the flashing symbol means that the back of the TV was open?

Wish I could help... but I don't know.

You may want to call JVC and "PLAY DUMB"! Just tell them that the 'status' popped up and ask how to get rid of it.

And... keep the kids out of your TV. Spiders cause less damage.

I have the same TV as you and as far as I can remember that image has always been there on mine. In the menu there are titles for each section of the menu. That one is "Initial Setup" the image you see is a TV coming out of the box. Hence when you first bring it home take it out of the box and that is the "initial setup" screen. As you click thru menu options you will see other titles with other images. "Sound Setup"
"Clock Setup" etc.....

everything is normal as discussed before - go to menu - find convergence - then line up little crosses (white) with red and blue - suggest you read manual first as it is really simple. If this does not fix the problem then call and have sears replace blown parts - this happened to mine.

I have the 48WP55 model and have also seen a spider crawling around in the screen. It is very disconcerning. I wanted to take a pic of it, but it only came out once(no matter how hard I tried to lure it out, by gently tapping around the cabinet of course).

These series of televisions have a booby trap sensor. Basically, if you try and operate the tv with the back panel off, light gets into the sensor and erases the eeprom. To get around this, just turn the tv off and unplug it. Wait a few minutes. Open up the back by taking the back panel off. Find the top edge of the DVI card. You will see a small square hole, that is the sensor. Unplug the DVI card from the main board and put black electrical tape over the sensor. Now you can safely work on the tv while it's on and not worry about erasing the eeprom. Once you're done, don't forget to hook the DVI back up and take the tape off (NOT WHILE IT IS ON!)
