View Full Version : WS65-813/DVI/Overscan question

Just found this forum...great!

I have a Home PC, with a Radeon videocard with DVI which connects to my Mistubishi ws65-813.

I play HDTV which was recorded from OTA with an ATI HDTV wonder.

Problem is it's overscanned, the ABC log os cut off, the actual top and bottom of thescreen go beyond the screen.

The catalyst control center allows for stretching of the primary Monitor (19 inch LCD) but not the mitsubishi.

I tried Powerstrip 3.50, but it can't seem to remember a predefined resolution or perhaps i just haven't mastered the program.

Is there a hidden menu with my ws-658132 that allows for me to compress the DVI image (monolink) vertically and or horizontally so the HDTV (1920 x 1080) image is displayed properly?

I'm wondering if i would have had the same problem had I connected the PC via component inputs.

Any help apprreciated and if possible if i can be cc'd at predictthefuture@aol.com

Many thanks,

Jeff

it could be the video card but might be the tvs overscan hard to tell... plus you are not actually seeing 1920x1080 this tv displays HD at 1200x1080... 1200 is the max horizontal scan lines it can produce which is quite a bit for a crt rptv...

But in the propeties tab of either Powerstrip ot the ATI catalyst drivers it reports the Mitsubishi as 1920 x 1080, not 1200 x 1080.

What you "send" (1080 x 1920) is simply different from what it can "resolve". It displays 1080i with a horizontal resolution of roughly 1200 lines, despite the fact that you are sending 1920. That's all.

In order to prevent overscan, you typically need to pick a resolution "lower" than 1080 x 1920. See the following, it may help.

Just as a followup, no other resolution seems to take othere than 1920 x 1080 in Powerstip 3.57

I've been able to resize the picture horizontally no seeing the ABC TV logo.

The only problem seems to be sizing it vertically, I can't squeeze it so i can see the entire pocture vertically, if i move it sown i then get the top and not the bottom and vice versa.

I know i'm not far away, but sooner or later

Just a brief followup...I honestly don't know what i'm doing in photostrip but 960i as the vertical setting is perfecr for seeing all of what i need to see vertically, perfect.

Horizontally 1800 doesn't expnd the picture side to side, and i tried to create a a 1920 x 960 i but that woudn't take.

Almost there, can't seem to figure out the photostrip option for saving your changes after a windows reboot or what it means if the changes aren't accepted by your driver on the fly.

but almost.

Just another follow-up

It seems 1776 x 1000 works quite well, but between the ATI catalyst control center (Radeon 9550) and powerstrip I can't seem to duplicate the setting and have it stay put after a windows reboot, but it did work.
