I will be buying a new DVD player and am not sure of a few features - some of which add significant $ to the cost.

What is Faroudja Processing and is it worth it?

What is 3-2 reverse pulldown?

Are DVD Audio's increasingly available?

I am looking at the Panasonic CP67K for $180 vs. the Yamaha C920 for $450. I don't mind spending the extra $ if having Faroudja, 3-2, and capability to play DVD-Audios is worth it.

Any imput is much appreciated.

HDTV4all: Welcome to the forum.

1. The faroudja circuit used to be available on only the most expensive players. It is now filtering down to mid-priced players and I've heard nothing but good things about it. Type "faroudja" into your favourite search engine to learn more.

2. 2:3 pulldown is done by the TV or DVD player to compensate for the different frame rates between movies (24 fps) and TVs (30 fps). Type 3:2 pulldown into your favourite search engine to learn more. Most TVs have this circuitry in their "movie mode" so you don't need this in your DVD player.

3. DVD-A and SACD software is still very limited. Don't know if it'll take off at all. May be like DAT or MD...

4. Panasonic have a more expensive unit 62 or 82 or something like that, that you can compare with the Yamaha. I have a bias toward the Yamaha as you can tell from my signature, but don't let that influence you.

5. As a "newbie" to HDTV, check out the FAQ section (6th one down on the home page) for more useful information for those new to HDTV.
