View Full Version : A Question for Zenith 44" LCD owners
I was checking out a Zenith 44" LCD set at Best buy over the weekend. The set had terrible screen door with light bar running vertically thru the picture. It was only noticable when the picture was showing sky or a light solid background.
The salesman said hes seen that on all the zeniths and that if I dont want screen door I should get a Sony.
Have any of you had this problem, seen this problem or corrected this problem.
I like the set but the picture, at least on the one I saw, was unacceptable.
Any comments will be appreciated.
Thanks

Any LCD can exhibit 'screen door effect'.
(I'll bet the Sony is more expensive)
Some may be more evident than others. And may be program/feed dependant.

I have the same problem on the set I bought today. Its going back for exchange tommorrow. I hope this really isnt a brand wide problem becuase I really like the the TV's features.
Edit: Its not program or feed dependent. I have the same problem using DVI from a computer, component from a prog. scan DVD, and even the RCA inputs. I also noticed the same problem on a returned tv on the floor.

How close are you all sitting to the TV? You'll see SDE on any fixed pixel projection display if you sit too close. I can't see SDE on mine from 7 or 8 feet out and I have very good vision.

That vertical light bar may be a ground loop electrical manifestation. Is your set plugged into a surge protector? Are you on cable? If so, disconnect and see whether the light bar goes away. If so, there's no telling where in the line 60 Hz AC is entering, but it would definitely be time to get the cable guy out to deal with it. I've also heard of this happening with satellite, but less frequently.
