Does anyone else have this problem? The blue on my set seems to be slightly blurred (bleeds out both sides of red and green). I also cannot perfectly converge the edges of the screen.

Blue Push - Does this have to be fixed via manual focus?

Convergence - The top, bottom and sides seem very hard to set using 'service' mode. Anyone know tricks to this when performing fine convergence?

THx in advance!

I don't have the exact same set by mine is very close.

Focus - I have the same focus problem with blue. I haven't totally fixed it yet but I've read that getting the manual focus done as best as you can then slightly defocussing the electronic focus and adjusting the cuts/drives will fix the bleed/blooming on the blue gun. Just be sure that you're convergence is as best as it can be to make sure it's a focus problem. Keep in mind that you'll probably never completely correct this. I've gotten it to a point (after doing manual/electronic focus and service menu COARSE/FINE convergence)where I only notice it in very high contrast scenes and I'll probably be able to get that better after some more ajustments but because blue has a very different wavelength than green and red it will always be the least focused color and I will therefore always experience some amount of blue bleed/blooming.

Blue Push - Yes, I had that problem too. It was quite easy to fix (as was most of the Red Push) once I purchased the Digital Video Essentials DVD at FutureShop and ran through it all. I think I need to go through it all again though as I've since tweaked some service menu settings and may have to redetermine the correct settings for the user menu (Color, Tint, Brightness, etc..). If you don't yet have DVE or AVIA I highly recommend you start there. I found that I had to bring my cuts and drives down slightly and the user menu settings that worked best for me were as listed below;

Color - Old setting: 30 - New setting: 17
Tint - Old: 32 - New: 29
Bright - Old: 30 - New: 25
Picture - Old: 50 - New: 25
Sharpness - Old: ?? - New: 0

Of course your settings will be a bit different but it should be close. Note that these are for my Cinema settings. Also be sure to turn off the extra features such as Noise Reduction, Natural Color, VM (Velocity Modulation) and set the colors to Normal (not cool or warm).

Convergence - I too had problems with the edges. I didn't realize until recently that there are points 'outside' the visible area that also need to be converged. First off, make sure that you've corrected any geometry problems with COARSE mode and that you've focused the guns as best you can (if you are willing to do either electronic and/or manual). Once those are done go to FINE mode and work from the middle out. Once you've done all the visible points move the cursor to an outside line and then move one more point out. The cursor will jump between the outside line and 1 line from the outside to tell you you're adjusting a non visible point. Remember that there are points at the corners as well ;) The cursor will jump on a diagonal when you adjust those.

Hopefully I've given you some helpfull info. If you come across anything else that I've missed please let me know. I'm still 'tweaking' my set and any additional info is appreciated.

Good luck.

Thank you soooooo much!! I didn't know what was happening when the cursor was jumping back and forth - I thought it was telling me that I was trying to move outside the adjustable area...

That will help me big time...I'll be able to sleep now!!!

Quick follow-up for ya...

How did you adjust the electronic focus on your set? I haven't read instructions anywhere that were understandable (including the full service manual for the TV). The service menu options are pretty unclear too, they all seem to be acronymns that I can't figure out.

I have this set too, I was feeling adventurous last night and did the electronic focus. It wasn't that hard but I still have to do the manual/optical. After doing the e-focus I still have some blue "bleeding" as well, I'll make sure I post any improvements I notice after doing the manual focus. The instructions are on the Panny.tv site on the "Known tweaks" section, they are actually for the 47W49 (or something like that) but work just the same. The hardest part for me was getting the speaker cover out... :D Ohhh, also while doing this, since I was already in there, I disconnected the SVM connectors, I think it can be disabled in the user menu but I figured that I would permannetly disable it.

I was then adjusting geometry which eventually I got to be decent. Only prob I have right now is the left side line of the pattern (vertical line that should be next to the screen's edge) is not a straight line. I'm assuming I'll be able to fix this with the FINE mode adjustments which I will do in the next few days.

Yes, you'll be able to correct any fine geometry issues in the fine mode - just make sure you're correcting all colours at once!!
