Hello everyone. I have a PT-51hx40. I was messing with the convergence and noticed that it doesn't seem right. For example, I will line up the crosshairs for red, and it will still be way off nearer to the edges. Is this proper, or do I need to do more? I've had the TV for a few years, and the picture is fine, but I just now got Dish for the HDTV and think that my picture should be better than what I'm seeing. Any help is much appreciated.

You need to do the 56 point (or however many) convergence instead of the simple one you're trying to do with few points. You may need to go into the service menu to do that.

Someone with a Panny should be along to help you with that shortly, or you could do a search for "panasonic + convergence" and see what you find on this site.

I'm not sure about this particular model but my 53WX54 only has a 9 point convergence in the standard User mode. To do a more advanced convergence you have to go into Serviceman Mode. Very detailed instructions for this can be found at;

Cheers! :cheers:

The 56-point will help in a big way, but I'm still having problems with the edges. I called Panasonic and they're sending out a tech under warranty to solve the issue.

Make sure you read the instructions carefully before doing anything, because I've heard of many people really messing up their picture when they don't know what they're doing.

Pay special attention to the instructions on how to back out without saving changes in case things go wrong...it saved my bacon a few times!!!

Have fun!!!

I figured out the grid convergence and it looks alot better, but it still doesn't seem like it looks as good as it does at the stores. Is it the programing, or are there is there more involved than just convergence? Thanks everyone.

Are you comparing the BEST HD channel you have to what the store is using? If not you may not be comparing apples to oranges...

Have you done the steps in the FAQ "What you need to do to your new HDTV"?

Are you actually viewing HD? Which STB do you have? Is it correctly connected and set up? If you're viewing SD, see the FAQ on "poor SD PQ".

Yes, I am comparing my best channel (DSCHD) to the stores.
I am using Dish networks 811 reciever as my STB. I have it connected to component 2 input using component cables.

I've got all of the automatic's off, but I do need to get that setup DVD. Is that common at Wal-mart, or Best Buy, or do I need to special order it?
Thank you again.
