Hello,
I'm pretty new to the HD world, but I've been doing a lot of research lately, most of it in this forum. Thanks a lot for the great tips!

I'm trying to figure out where I saw another guests' question about 'a certain big-chain electronics store' selling a dumbed down version of their TV.

The set(s) that I've been looking at recently are the Mit-48311 and the Mit-42311. I've noticed that the 'big chain store' changed the model number - they dropped the '311'. Are they selling TV's that don't have all the bells and whistles? My biggest worry is that the TV will not let me have access to certain set-up screens, or color adjustments, etc.

Also, where is the Firewire on these TV's? Does it only come with the 'Promise Module'

Thank again for your help!

Atlantick: Welcome to the forum. I've moved your post into the Mits section, rather than leaving it in "AVIA".

Someone else should have the answers to your questions, since I'm not very familiar with the Mits models.

If you haven't done so already, check out the FAQ section (6th one down on the home page).

Atlantick-

I bought a Mits 55909 a couple of months ago. In my research I found that the 'certain big-chain electronics store' did indeed sell a dumbed-down version of its regular line. Forgive me because it's been a while, so details can't be specific.

The deal wasn't too bad at first glance; the picture looked good, the controls seemed first rate (I had the guy pull up the 64-point convergence screen), the price was nice, but something was missing. I eventually decided to stay away from that set because of two reasons:

1. The sales help on the floor will tell you just about anything you want to hear, but they really don't know big screen TVs. It's just one more department at a large electronics store. If something goes wrong in the future, I would have to deal with the store rather than genuine factory service, and the store might send a guy who is as inexperienced in that TV as the sales guy.

2. I went to an a retailer who specialized in big screen TVs and was amazed. No high-pressure pitch and I could compare many different features available in the TVs. This was the biggest reason: the image produced by the high-end diamond series just blew me away. And you couldn't get that in the model sold at the electronics store.

The location of the firewire and promise module is on the integrated HD tuner at the back of the TV. The module is covered with a metal box that would be removed to acces the way to upgrade the software. The firewire connections sit near this. The firewire connections will be useless without a component that will utilize it, like their $1000 D-VCR. No thanks. Just make sure that your TV has Net-Command. I don't know how I got by without it before.
