View Full Version : Using the THX Optimizer

OK, I'm a bit confused. I thought the whole point of changing the settings on your TV was to get it OUT of torch mode. When I used the Optimizer and was adjusting the contrast, the instructions tell you to crank your contrast and then back it down until you can see the difference in all 8 boxes. Well I did this and my contrast is now set to about 75% of the max. Somehow I think I'm either screwing up something/misinterpreting the directions, or "torch mode" on my Mits 52525 isn't as bad as most sets are.

Advice and thoughts?

turn value down and work your way up to the best lowest setting...

also if you can, try to pick up a copy of DVE (digital video essentials) or Avia, to do the calibration... The THX optimizer is not bad but the others are better....

After following the low to higher method... see where you line out from your
"before" result (working from way high to low) and the result of working low to higher... the best result for you might be somewhere in between with the THX system....

Using DVE there is a simple test pattern and a full explanation of how to achieve the best desired result.... it works well...

Good Luck.

I'll give that a shot. That makes more sense to me, but I was just following the directions as I interpereted them.

The THX Optimizer will get you in the ballpark, DVE will get you a great seat, an ISF pro-cal will give you clear day and 20/20 vision.
