When Adelphia installed my 8300HD, I didn't have an HDMI cable available so we used compoenent. Now that I have a cable, I can't seem to get a signal over HDMI. I've tried powering down the unit and rebooting it, but that doesn't seem to work either.

Do I need to use the setup wizard to enable HDMI?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Using an HDMI -> DVI cable going into a Tosh. 57H83

Check with Adelphia to make sure the HDMI jack is active, it's possible they don't have it enabled in the firmware. By the way, I doubt you'll see any PQ increase by switching to HDMI over component on a CRT so if it's not active, it's not that big of a deal unless you need to free up the inputs on your TV.

Strange thing happened with my 8300. When it arrived I tried going straight HDMI, and my TV said it was not a compatable signal. The tech said they were aware of this problem and were working on a fix, for now just use component. For reasons other than PQ I did not want to use component, but had no choice. While viewing an HD ch. I plugged in the HDMI cable to the back of box, switched inputs on tv, and it worked.???? Only thing is that now on chnls. 1-99 ( I guess non-digital), I get the message not a compatable signal.

I'm using the HDMI -> HDMI cable for my 8300 box to a Sony KDF-55XS955 without any real problems. I noticed a marked increase in audio (I'm just using the sets speakers) with the HDMI over components but no real difference in PQ. I actually was about to return my HDMI when I couldn't get it to work. At the last minute I thought I would try turning the cable around (switching the ends) and it started working fine! I think the HDMI cable/interface is just really hit/miss right now.

PS HDMI cables aren't directional, are they?

I didn't think the cables were directional, but I hope not. Interestingly enough, I received a message about 40 minutes after I tried the HDMI cable, and had already switched back to component, that my TV was not HDCP compliant. Fortuantely, the TV is HDCP compliant, so I'm not sure what the issue may be. I've got a call into Adelphia tech support, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm getting the same msg about my tv from the DVI port on the SA 8000HD box. I called comcast and the lady didn't know what dvi was and then said she would send me a signal??

I've pretty much given up at this point.

First, does your TV actually support HDCP and if it does are you turning on your TV then the STB? The STB needs to be able to handshake with the TV before it will send out a picture due to HDCP...

Yes, my tv supports hdcp. And yes I am turning on the tv and then the cablebox. I'm using an hdcp compliant dvi to hdmi cable from len expo to connect the SA 8000HD box to a Sony KDF-42WE655.

Same here. TV is on and tuned to the DVI/HDMI input. Then I plug in the 8300. I get audio, but no video. I waited 5 minutes....swapped back to component and everything is fine. 40 mins later - the HDCP message pops up. Weird.

I get audio and no video when selecting an analog channel, but turning my 8300hd (on DVI/HDMI input) off and on restores video, in doing so it switches from 480i to 480p.

At this time very few SA8000HD have the DVI output activated. Each cable provider is expected to get an update from Scientific Atlanta in days or weeks from now and the provider will then update this DVR.

My DVI cable is connected, my AT8400-D remote is programmed to power on the TV then the SA8000HD, in that sequence, with one click of the Power button. A couple of times a week, I check to see if by chance the DVI was activated...the day will come.

Ahhh! Just read in another thread that yours is now active !

Talked to a comcast tech today about this issue. Apparently there is a bug in the software which is causing this. He said there is a patch for this and it is just waiting for corporate approval.
