If you buy a good quality cable, like, Monster Video 3, will you lose anything by getting a 6m (20 ft.) as oppossed to a 2m. I know, funny question, but I have my reasons for asking. My friend wants to sell me his for cheap, but I don't want to buy it if shorter cables will provide better picture quality. Thanks for your help.

Yes you will loose something. About $50 hard earn dollars. Sorry but I couldn’t help making fun of Mon$ter. The answer to your question is No. The length is not long enough to degrade the bandwidth. How much is your "friend" willing to sell you the cable for?

That's a high quality cable. I wouldn't think there would be a problem other than having a bundle of cable all coiled up behind your rack. Not a good thing.

Personally I'd pick something up a BlueJeans or RamElectronics. Just as good or better and less $$'s. Unless he is really giving you a good deal.

Cable length adds attenuation (loss of signal).

Try to keep cable runs as short as necessary (with some slack).

IMO... 20' is not in your best interests if unnecessary.

Okay, thanks for all your help. From what I have read on this wonderful site, a good cable can be obtained without buying monster. I was thinking maybe Acoustic Research or something, but didn't know. However, my friend said he would sell this to me for $20, which I know is a good deal, but I could get a good cable at that price at a shorter length. So, if was just wondering......

Now I am curious :) That 6m Mon$ter cable retails for $130.

If its not chewed by a pet or frustrated HT owner, buy a set of ARs, buy and sell the Mon$ter. :D

or just save the Mon$ter, you may buy a FP someday, it will come in handy then.

You can never have too many spare cables in your HT box. (that's where I keep my collection)

(you cannot touch ANY 6m cable of that quality for anywhere near $20)

(and if you feel guilty, split the profit with your buddy)

LeeS,
Funny you say that, cause that is almost exactly the situation. He bougth this cable awhile back, and kept having trouble with all the "extra" cable in the back. So, he just got a new one, and put this one in a drawer. I am set to receive my new Sony KDF-50WE655 the first week in March, and am looking into getting some decent cables. He really doesn't pay much attention to the cost of things, so he thought he would help me out. Just don't know if I should take the plunge, or just get an AR and save the space. Very much appreciate all of your help.

Personally I'm with Ratman on this. You really don't need all that cable coiled up back there. Buy the ARs.

Sell it for your friend here, jeez at $20 I might even buy it :)

At $50 it would be a very good deal.

For $20... I'd buy it and put it in my 'toy box'.
You never know when you may need it for yourself or help a friend and save him/her a few $$.

But I wouldn't use a 20' cable if not needed.

Thanks guys, appreciate it. Just kind of in a bind because I know it's a great cable, but don't want the "extra" cable just like my buddy. From what I hear, I can buy an AR and have great picture quality. Might go that route. Once again, great site, and great feedback.
