Hi - I just got set up with HD (through Comcast). My HD channels are beautiful and my non-HD channels are good, but could probably be better. I would like to get a splitter, so that I can run one cable to my set-top-box and one cable directly to my TV. When I looked to buy a splitter, they seemed real cheap (maybe too cheap). Specifically, what should I be looking for in a good splitter? I saw a Magnavox 5-900MHZ splitter ... would that be good? Can anyone explain what "5-900MHZ" means and if that is what I should be getting? Thank you.

That is the 'bandpass' of frequecies that is will carry or passthrough.
Most recommend 5-1000 for digital cable, but I know personally that a 5-900 does work with no problems.
This would probably be a good choice:

Any of these should work fine. I bought an RCA brand (if I remember right) from Best Buy for about $15.00 (3 way splitter). A week later I saw the same one at Home Depot for less than half that. I would go with the first one which is 1ghz. Good luck.

Very helpful ... thank you! I know that I could just try something & see how it looks, but I'm "so close" now & the last thing I want to do now is mess something up. Thanks again!

Why buy it? Comcast will give you one for free. Just stop by your local office and pick it up. That is what I did. Also, ask them for the coaxial cable you will need. Have them make it short, like a foot or two, so as to make wires easier to hide (makes the wife happy).

Hmmm... Maybe they'll give me another optical cable that I need for my Xbox???
