Hi i just got this tv about 4 days ago and i have seen alot of people saying the bulbs only last about 3 months in this tv. Has anyone had this tv for over a year that knows if this is true?... it would be not too good if i have to replace the bulb every 3 months at 450$ everytime. thanks

7 months and counting. Shouldn't cost that much to replace the bulb I believe.
1st link on a Google search.

Im in canada so that is a canadian price and right on panasonic website it is listed for 450 that is why i said that much. I would be very happy if i could find a place to get it cheaper in canada.

I believe that LCD bulbs are supposed to last 60k-80k hours...? Roughly the same as most plasma TVs.

I believe that most lamps last on average 3k to 6k hours.
Of course... the more (or less) you watch, will dictate the 'life'.

If i keep my tv settings set to normal factory settings which has picture and brightness set a bit higher is that also going to lessen the life of my bulb?

It may... by about 20 hours (guesstimate).
I've read many threads about premature death of lamps (less than 2k hours). Not that this is the case (or specific) with your set, but personally, I'd have a backup ready.

I wish i could find a good deal on a bulb so i could have a backup just in case... im sure i got along time before i have to worry since i have only had the tv for about a week lol.

Panasonic said the bulb have a max life of 10000 hours although in the reality the life is anywhere between 2000 to 5000 hours
I think is ok because one lamp each year means less than $ 1 each day and its ok with me because I am glad of pay 1$ diary to watch TV in this excellent TV
You also need to remember that each time you replace the lamp, the TV is back like new. It don't happen with a plasma TV or crt big screen when after 3 years of normal use the brightness is half of when it was new and of course you still have the risk of screen burned with logos or something
Many people think the LCD Projection TVs are expensive to maintenance due lamp replacement , but i think in the long run is the same price to other technologies and they offer a big improvement in the picture quality
I bought my lamp from here
http://www.ercservice.com/lamps/panasonic.html
They sell the original lamp at $288 and is $11 less than Panasonic and at least I save some bucks

Don't fool yourself! The lamps don't last long at all! In fact we started a petitions (tonight) about the lamps only lasting 1500 hrs on average instead of the projected 10,000hrs as listed on the manual.

I currently have a PT-50LC13 (ty-la1000 lamp part) and it blew 14 months old and cost me $300. This isn't cheap to me, especially if you have to buy one a year!!!!

Are we forgeting the original cost of the TV!! A $1 a day is cheap to you?? To watch TV! That's insane. BTW that's if the bulb actually last one year. So is $2 day ok as well? This is a bunch of crap (rape if you will) that Panny is pulling to charge $300 for a glorified light bulb! They are taking total advantage of the consumer and they know it!!

Almost everyone from that site has the 50lc13 or 60. These tvs are 50 and 60" using the same bulb as my 43". perhaps that is the issue with the tvs, I don't see anyone saying anything about the pt-43lc14 in that thread. Also the store i purchased my tv from sells the bulbs for my tv for $200 canadian. this is a resonable price a year for me. i can handle that... however i cannot handle the $450 cost panny sells them for.

another thing i noticed about that forum almost all the tvs in it are the 50lc13 i have a 43lc14 wich is a newer model, perhaps they have fixed this issue now or perhaps it is only with the 50lc13.... i mean almost every tv in that forum is that model none others are listed.
Is your lamp a TY-LA1000? If so, join the petition in a couple months when it blows.

i already did sign up for it because i have a feeling it is going to be like that, i was just saying it seems like it is basically the 50" ones that are having this problem but i signed it because i have the same bulb and i dont think anyone should have a bulb burn out that fast on a tv no matter how much you use it.

Let me explain my case: In December 2001 I bough a Sony CRT big screen i paid about $3000 , 2 years after I noticed a bad mark in the bottom of the screen, the service center said it need replaced all 3 CRT because is a permanent mark due my wife wanted the close caption all the time, it was a $1200 estimate bill, OK it was my fault. In the year 2002 I bought a Fujitsu plasma for my office I paid about $8000 ,one year and half after I forget it turned on all the weekend with the satellite showing the odious sign "service not authorized call ext 722" The next Monday i found a beautiful mark in the plasma screen, OK it was my fault but I send $8000 to the trash
My neighbor also had similar problem with a Panasonic plasma
14 months ago i bought a Panny 50" LCD I paid $3000 for it and if I need 1 lamp each year it will be $3000 more for 10 years normal life total $6000
The main question is ,will this TV last 10 years ? I don't know
My first lamp lasted 14 months with an average of 6 hours each day, it is a total of 2520 hours, of course I will be happy if Panasonic sell the lamp at $50 but projection lamps always was expensive to manufacturer and I don't think it will go down in the short time

$6000 for 10 years of life with no risk of screen burned is ok with me or you have another better choice with same quality?
When a big screen, high quality TV was cheap ? you are not obligate to buy it, if you don't want spent that money go to wall-mart and buy a 27" TV
And a final word: All manufacturers had same problem, it is not a Panasonic case only,
"its the nature of the technology and you should understand it before buy it" ,<----Is the response I got from Fujitsu when i asked for my burned plasma

No i think claimed lamp life is more like 8,000 hours. There are tons of reports from owners on AVSForum.com where their bulbs blew out way way sooner than that.

From reading the estimated time the people on the petition needed a new bulb, I'm shocked. It seems you will need a new bulb every year. If you have the TV on just 20 hours a week it seems hosed some time just after year 1. At the going rate that's $3,000 for 10 years of use. Not including the $2,500 you put in. In comparison, plasma seems a bargain. There is something wrong with the numbers here. It seems that Panasonic no longer gives an average life span and just says that they recommend a replacement bulb on hand.

i found out how many hours i have on my bulb, i have the pt-43lc14 and i have had it for just over a month and a half and i have already watched over 500 hours of tv on this, i watch alot of tv, i hope this tv does not have a bulb issue because ill be spending alot of money on bulbs as you can see my tv is on for at least 12 hours a day. I got my pc hooked up, game cube, ps2, xbox, dvd player and tv, this is on all the time. If anyone wants to know how to see the amount of time is on your bulb i know how to get into the menu which shows you this. I will post again with that info i have to find it first but i do have it.

I have a Panasonic PT-50LC13 HDTV and I have just recieved a lamp indicator light flashing red. I have taken out the lamp but it does not look blown. I called Panasonic and they indicated if your lamp is blown it would be evident inside the lamp. I tried to do a continuity test on the leads but no connection is found. I understand you can not test these lamps to see if they are good.
Also it could possibly be the ballast malfunctioning?
Does anyone know of a test other than installing in the set and any information on the ballast issue?
Thanks

draperm,
You have to count the number of red flashes on the lamp indicator, this will tell you reason the light indicator has lit up. Only if it has a solid red does it need to be replaced. A flashing red could be a number of things.

Thanks OMAN321, I had to call a technician in and evaluate the problem. The set is in the shop for about three days should hear something soon. I feel that the ballast has gone bad, but waiting to hear back.
There has been a lot of talk on the net of these ballasts going bad early and having the set for 2 years is a bit early.
Hopefully Panny will pay for the repairs or I will never buy another product from panny.

I saw this TV on sale for 1,499.00 and it is the exact same TV as the PT56DLX75 with no changes per Panasonic. I was concerned about the bulb life. I emailed Panasonic. They replied with "The original lamp carries an 18 month warranty. Each replacement lamp will carry a 12-month warranty[/B]." Today I called Panasonic and the cost of a new bulb is $299.00 per their parts dept. In talking with customer service they said a bulb should last an average of "3 to 5 years and 8-10,000 hours." When I told them I had read otherwise they said they were having a lot of problems with the Panasonic LCD Projection TV's.

I am a huge Panasonic fan and I have a 3 year old PT-50LC13 50"widescreen.There was even a lawsuit filed against the company saying the bulbs blew prematurely. They denied it and I half to agree.I am not saying you abuse your TV but we both know that you are never to turn the TV on and off or it will shorten the bulb's life. How many kids do you think pay anttention to that?..I don't even watch mine when the electricity is flickering on and off.I think if you respect your tv and follow the operating instructions you should have good service from it.By the way I guess you know that Panasonic is #1 in plasma's.This Christmas they are introducing a 102" model....love to have that on my wall.

lghaze42,
I have to agree, i have had mine for almost 2 years now and it is on from 8:00am - 1:00am every day so i have probably more then 6000 hours on it easy and i have never had any bulb problems with mine. The only time i turn it off is if i know i am not going to watch it for over an hour because from what panasonic told me everytime you turn the tv on and off you waste about 4 hours of bulb life so there is no point in turning it off if i go to the store for 20 min. Just thought i would share my experience with this tv so far, i have the pt-43lc14

I have owned the PT-43LC since Nov. 2005. Up until now, it has been a great HDTV. Today, I had my first "issue" and have yet to discover a fix. I turn the TV on and it blinks green, indicating that the lamp is powering up. After way too long, the power light again blinks red and the lamp indicator blinks once every 5 seconds. I don't think my bulb is burned out but my only fix according to the manual is to turn the power on several times. Didn't work so I guess I'll have to contact a service center. Anyone else experience this?
